About This Position:

Performs specialized clerical duties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Processes documentsaccording to established procedures; examples include reports charts tables and lists bill receipts statements case files permits licenses and notices.
  • Reviews documentsfor completeness accuracy and compliance with legal and other requirements.
  • Answers questions and provides informationto the public concerning regulations procedures forms applications programs and services and permit requests.
  • Maintains recordsrequiring specialized knowledge and judgment in the selection compilation or computation of data; examples include cost records and distribution and control ledgers which can be posted without extensive knowledge of bookkeeping.
  • Compares or segregates documentswhere specialized knowledge of the function and more than a routine check for completeness and accuracy is involved.
  • Uses office machinessuch as computers or terminals copiers scanners or calculators incidental to the performance of other duties.
  • Searches records and filesfor data where judgment and discrimination are required in selecting or abstracting material.
  • Indexes and cross-referencesrecords and files.
  • Sorts and files documents and publications; Retrieves and issues filed materials.
  • Calculates amounts due collects fees and issues receipts.
  • Requests receives stores inventories issues office supplies and maintains related records.
  • Receives sorts and distributesmail.
  • Serves as a receptionistor counter clerk as needed.

Requirements to Qualify:

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE AND HAVE:

Option I:

A current participant within the Los Angeles County Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN)/Skills and Training to Achieve Readiness for Tomorrow (START) ANDsix months of office clerical experience in the service of the County of Los Angeles -OR-

Option II:

A current participant within the Los Angeles County Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN)/Skills and Training to Achieve Readiness for Tomorrow (START) ANDone year of office clerical experience outside the service of the County of Los Angeles -OR-

Option III*:

A current participant within the Los Angeles County Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN)/Skills and Training to Achieve Readiness for Tomorrow (START) ANDa certificate or Associate of Arts degree in clerical procedures or office administration from an accredited college or university.

*To receive credit for the required degree and/or certification you must attach a legible copy of the official diploma/transcripts and an official letter from the accredited institution that shows the area of specialization and/or a legible copy of the official certificate at the time of filing or within ten (10) calendar days from application submission date. License:

A valid California Class C Drivers License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carryout job-related essential functions.

Physical Class:

Physical Class II Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring a light physical effort including occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Assessment Content:

This examination will consist of a multiple choice and/or simulation assessment weighted 100% assessing the following:

Only candidates who achieve a passing score of 70% or higher will be placed on the eligible register.

Transfer of Test Components:

If you recently took identical components for other exams the test responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

    Candidates who pass the assessment are placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies throughout Los Angeles County as they occur. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly.
