Job Description

Lead Smart Maintenance deployment across global manufacturing plants!

Drive enterprise SAP ABAP development and system integration for cutting-edge Smart Maintenance applications.

Contract Period: November 1 2025 December 31 2028
Location: Hybrid - Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn/Home Office rotation
Team: SMARTIES (Smart Maintenance for Non-Standard Plants Asset Management)
Experience Required: 8 years SAP application deployment and support
Citizenship: South African citizens/residents only

Project Overview

Lead the deployment and support of Smart Maintenance applications from STARD systems into non-STARD plants.

This expert role involves managing SAP transport packages customizing plant-specific code and ensuring seamless integration and testing across SAP R/3 and S/4HANA environments.

Essential Skills Requirements Core Technical Expertise (Mandatory)
  • SAP ABAP Certification required
  • Expert Knowledge: System design and development covering SAP ABAP R/3 and S/4HANA
  • Development Skills: Custom reports enhancements user exits BADIs and BAPIs
  • Code Quality: Modular programming reusable components and clean code principles
  • Performance: Ability to optimize ABAP code for performance
  • Troubleshooting: Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across SAP modules
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with functional consultants and business stakeholders
  • Business Acumen: Understand and interpret business needs moving concepts through to successful implementation
  • Agile Framework: Additional responsibilities as per Agile Working Model (AWM) Charter
Advantageous Skills Advanced Technical Skills
  • Object-Oriented Design: SAP OO paradigms and SAP OData experience
  • Integration Knowledge: Process integration across multiple SAP modules
  • Development Tools: Jira/Confluence Git Transport Management CI/CD pipelines for SAP
  • Modern Tools: ABAPGit or similar development tools

  • Mentorship: Guide junior developers conduct code reviews make architecture decisions
  • Cross-functional Work: Collaborate with functional consultants and business analysts
  • End-to-End Implementation: Development testing go-live and support experience
  • International Collaboration: Work with global teams and address language barriers professionally

Qualifications & Experience Requirements
  • Experience: 5-8 years in SAP application deployment and support
  • Industry Background: Manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
  • System Knowledge: Strong SAP R/3 and S/4HANA systems expertise including transport management
  • Application Experience: Plant Maintenance or similar SAP-based applications
Key Responsibilities Smart Maintenance Deployment
  • Version Management: Deploy and manage Smart Maintenance app versions within SAP STARD and non-STARD environments
  • Transport Management: Identify and prepare SAP transport packages (TXE for R/3 PRD for S/4HANA)
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and coordinate transport imports with plant representatives
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot post-import issues and implement plant-specific SAP code changes
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Comprehensive Testing: Perform thorough testing and resolve defects during implementation and rollout
  • Custom Requirements: Evaluate and implement custom SAP requirements for individual plants
  • Code Compliance: Ensure code compliance and support user testing during integration
  • Go-Live Support: Contribute to go-live readiness and provide hyper care support post-deployment
Documentation & Project Management
  • Project Tracking: Maintain user stories in JIRA and update technical documentation in Confluence
  • Knowledge Management: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regular updates and reporting to project stakeholders
