Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking to fill the Accounting Specialist I position with our Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) team. This position is responsible for reviewing researching and resolving contracted inmate payroll. Researches and reconciles various general ledger accounts. Prepares and resolves customer and vendor invoices. Also prepares and provides statistical data for monthly expense income accruals journal vouchers and summaries of ACI contracted financial statements.

- Manages researches and resolves issues relating to accounting transactions
- Generates reports and updates supervision of the activity
- Reviews work product of accounting clerks
- Attends mandatory training and staff meetings
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Principles concepts practices methods and techniques of governmental accounting and fiscal management
- Rules and regulations established for the work systems
- Methods and techniques of data processing and accounting practices
- General office procedures
- Computers and various software
- ADCRR policies and procedures
- State personnel rules and federal laws pertaining to accounting

Skill in:
- Work management
- Analysis and interpretation of financial data
- Operating various office equipment and automated accounting systems
- Maintaining accounting records
- Written and verbal communications
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

Ability to:
- Calculate analyze and reconcile data
- Utilize a variety of business computer hardware and software
- Recognize and implement efficient office and work procedures
- Work in a correctional environment with inmates

Selective Preference(s):

- One (1) year of experience in government equivalent to a Fiscal Service Specialist
- Completion of twelve (12) or more semester hours of accounting and one (1) year of professional-level accounting
- Formal education in accounting basic principles procedures mathematics and English with at least three (3) or more years of working experience in an office accounting environment dealing in high-volume paper flow

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and a drug test.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).

In an effort to maintain a safe environment all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
