DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Program Coordinator or designate the Pediatric Mental Health Worker contributes to the provision of client-centered and family-focused care for children and youth hospitalized with mental health and/or substance use concerns by completing patient assessments providing related counselling and reporting clients conditions including reactions to medications and activity monitoring the patient/clients environment and changes in baseline behaviors and moods to ensure safety. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) the Pediatric Mental Health Worker promotes a safe healthy and non-threatening environment that instills a sense of dignity and self-respect and motivates assists and instructs clients with the activities of daily living.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Graduation from a recognized degree program in Social Science plus one years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical Ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to teach
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
