Interfaith Works Homeless Services seeks shelter staff to provide essential staffing of its shelters. It is the responsibility of staff on duty to ensure the safety well-being and dignity of all occupants while on duty. Shelter staff designated as relief are hired as temporary hourly employees who are assigned to cover shifts when normally scheduled staff take leave or are otherwise unable to work. Shelter staff may work part-time to full-time hours based on individual availability; however flexibility is imperative. Currently we are looking for relief staff in two of our programs: Beckys House & Priscillas House.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES


  • Be available and flexible enough to cover shifts of other shelter staff when they are on leave during holidays or inclement weather.
  • Be responsible for monitoring shelter residents while on duty.
  • Assist in keeping all shelter activities running smoothly including showers laundry daily activity reports chores medication monitoring bedtime and morning routine.
  • Call emergency services to address any emergencies
  • Respectfully reinforce resident guidelines.
  • Monitor residents as they take and sign for all prescribed medications at the appropriate times.
  • Work with Case Managers and Program Directors to assist in coordinating services for shelter residents.
  • Keep informed of shelter updates by reading logs and emails.
  • Be responsible for welcoming volunteers and ensuring meals are served in a timely manner.
  • Answer phone calls and inquiries while on duty.
  • Meet with supervisor individually and attend regular staff meetings.
  • Attend trainings in core areas including Communication & Boundaries Mental Health Substance Use Crisis Intervention First Aid and CPR.
  • Other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ASSESSMENTS)

  • 1-2 years of employment or volunteer experience in direct human service.
  • Some understanding of mental illness substance use and human behavior.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Experience in crisis intervention a plus.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
