Virginias award-winning state park system a division of DCR boasts an incredible and diverse array of natural cultural historical and recreational resources including parks in the mountains on the ocean on the Chesapeake Bay on 8 major rivers on 4 major lakes 4 rail trails 3 battlefield sites and 32 sites listed on the National Historic Registry. Our parks encompass over 75000 acres offering campsites cabins trails shorelines lakes and ponds international dark sky sites and over 20000 educational programs and workshops each year.

Virginia State Parks Law Enforcement Division is accepting applications for a Law Enforcement Administrative Specialist.

This position will serve as a Law Enforcement Specialist Accreditation & Policy within the Public Safety & Law Enforcement Staff. As such it will independently perform with little guidance duties including the interpretation and application of administrative and the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) rules and regulations. Works closely with the Chief and Deputy Chief of Public Safety and Law Enforcement for the development of general orders and policy guidance. As necessary performs data and crime analysis reporting and assists in the preparation and development of such reports. These duties include:

  • Manage and maintain the PowerDMS filing system for the Departments accreditation files providing scheduled timelines and coordinating proof completion/submittal.
  • Provides related administrative assistance to the command staff as requested.
  • Attends and coordinates accreditation and administrative trainings and meetings as deemed necessary including the annual VALEAC conference.
  • Develops drafts and distributes accreditation reports and correspondence as necessary.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the program management staff at DCJS and other community agencies.
  • Conducts regular reviews of general orders and policy-related documents and where necessary develops writes revises and coordinates updates with appropriate staff to ensure such documentation is up-to-date and meets all current VLEPSC accreditation standards the Code of Virginia code updates and judicial rulings.
  • Identifies gaps in compliance and develops action plans to address deficiencies working with the Chief and Deputy Chief to correct any noted deficiencies through policy training or other administrative measures (e.g. ensuring timeliness of required audits and inspections).
  • In cooperation with the Chief and Deputy Chief analyzes data and prepares appropriate reporting.
  • Stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include proposed changes or amendments to the standards and assesses the impact of changes on current policies and procedures
  • Conducts mock assessments to ensure adherence to accreditation standards manages final onsite re-accreditation static display and assessment ensures compliance with provided proofs and supports training of others supporting accreditation.
