Hornet Shop & Mail Services Team Member
Position Title: | Information Desk Student Assistant |
Supervisors Title & Department Structure: | Graham Padgett Merchandising Coordinator Destin Tanner Retail & Licensing Manager |
Session: | 2025-2026 |
Hourly Rate & Position Classification: | $11.00 hourly |
Average hours per week: | 7-15 hours weekly based on campus events with occasional weeks up to 20 hours per week for special events |
Job Purpose: | Offer exceptional guest experiences and operational excellence |
Position Summary: | The Information Desk Student Assistant staffs the central Information Desk in the Drysdale Student Center and serves as a campus-wide resource for the University of Lynchburg community. The role includes greeting guests staying current on campus events providing wayfinding and answering questions across all areas of campus life. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong customer service skills remain knowledgeable about university happenings and act as a welcoming representative of the addition the role may support Hornet Shop & Mail Services operations as needed. |
Skills Development & Learning Opportunities Available: | Communication and Teamwork Skills - Provide clear and accurate information to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with campus departments to stay updated on events and services.
- Build professional communication and customer service skills.
Customer Service Skills - Stay informed on University of Lynchburg events activities and resources.
- Assist guests with wayfinding and escort them when necessary.
- Respond to inquiries in-person by phone and by email in a professional manner.
Leadership & Professional Development - Represent the University as a central information hub and ambassador.
- Gain transferable skills in hospitality problem-solving and public service.
- Build confidence in handling diverse customer needs independently.

Essential Duties:
| - Greet and assist guests visitors parents students and staff in a professional friendly manner.
- Stay abreast of campus events activities and services to serve as an accurate information hub.
- Provide wayfinding directions and campus escort services when appropriate.
- Answer general University-related questions and direct individuals to appropriate departments.
- Maintain and distribute event materials maps and campus resources.
- Provide occasional support to Hornet Shop & Mail Services operations as assigned.
- Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications: | - Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Must stay up-to-date on University of Lynchburg events and services
- Professional approachable and dependable demeanor
- Ability to handle multiple inquiries and adapt to different needs

Physical Requirements: | - Standing and walking or sitting for extended periods of time
- Escorting guests and visitors across campus
- Lifting or moving informational materials and small supplies (up to 25 lbs)
|
Schedule & Working Conditions: | This is a part-time student position. Hours vary based on campus activity levels primarily during the day when the Student Center is most active with some evening or weekend hours required to support campus-wide events. |
Educational Requirements: | Must be a current student at the University of Lynchburg |
