Role Purpose:
We monitor key events and conduct research to produce thought-provoking reports data models and presentations. From asset valuation to corporate reports from market supply-demand research to price-forecasting and from the regional to the global our analysis helps shape our customers commercial strategies.
We also support bespoke consulting projects diving deeper into our data to answer unique questions. We help our Sales team retain and win new business by spending time with customers and answering questions that matter to them. We work closely with colleagues in our Data and Product functions to maintain the quality of our published data and to deliver content via our growing Lens platform.
Through carrying out primary research responding to customer questions and presenting to industry stakeholders you will build relationships and a network of contacts at key operators national bodies and other relevant institutions. Over time you will gain specialist knowledge and develop the skills you require to progress your career at Wood Mackenzie.
Main Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Research Associate to join our team and cover Metals and Mining within our Commodities segment. As a member of our Metals and Mining team you will contribute to our asset/cost research. You may be a recent graduate looking for a career change or returning to work after a break. Wood Mackenzie has adopted a hybrid approach and we expect people to be present in our offices on average 2 days per week.
Your application should showcase your enthusiasm for the sectors we cover and demonstrate your ability in the following areas which we require daily at Wood Mackenzie.
Research and data gathering we identify and gather intelligence that feeds our industry expertise. We need inquisitive and passionate people with a keen eye for detail. Read and analyse company reports to find mine-level operational and cost datasets.
Analysis we provide market-leading research using this data/intelligence and form opinions for and tell stories to our customers. We need people with natural curiosity with the potential to become experts in their field and with the ability to articulate both verbally and in writing clear insightful analysis.
Internal engagement we work with global colleagues across the Wood Mackenzie business to deliver a compelling integrated view of the commodities sector to customers through our cutting-edge products. For this we need people who are as comfortable working collaboratively as they are independently and who have excellent interpersonal skills.
External engagement we proactively connect with our customers and contacts in the industries we serve adding value and promoting the Wood Mackenzie brand. This requires people with the potential to become industry experts who have intellectual curiosity passion and excellent presentation skills.

About You:
You are passionate about the dynamics of the metals and mining assets with a particular interest in bulk commodities and coal. You bring relevant experience skills or knowledge that will allow you to contribute meaningfully from day one. Your curiosity and analytical mindset will help deepen our understanding of coal markets and strengthen our global research coverage.
Asset Analysis - as someone with an interest in coal sector dynamics you want to understand how these mining assets impact the natural resources industry. You will analyse mine production reserves cost and operational outlook trends across global coal assets. Your insights will contribute to regular research publicationsand working as part of a global team.
Data Interpretation & Insight Generation - You possess an analytical mindset and a keen eye for detail. You are comfortable working with large datasets interpreting trends and articulating findings clearly in asset reports. You will develop compelling narratives from data write insightful commentary on cost challenges and opportunities and maintain key data models and methodologies. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is essential for presenting your analysis in a visually engaging manner.
Collaboration & Adaptability - you thrive in fast-paced environments and are excited about the opportunity to work cross-functionally on a variety of tasks. You can work independently or as part of a team generating ideas and striving to be the best in class.
Communication & Client Engagement - You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English enabling you to operate effectively in a global commodity market. You will support client engagement activities respond to ad hoc requests and demonstrate professionalism and responsiveness in all interactions.

We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment. This is subject to change per company policy.
This is a full-time role.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Background in mining energy economics or related disciplines
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) or programming languages (e.g. Python R) is a plus
Prior exposure to commodity markets or consulting environments is advantageous
