Job Summary
Dorchester County Public Schoolsis currently accepting applications forTeacher Mentors. Working under the direction of school administration and the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Developmentthis extra duty positionis for a positive experienced educator who will provide training advice and professional support for new teachers. The Teacher Mentors will serve as mentors to first second and third year non-tenured teachers. The successful candidate will demonstrate principled leadership and decision making while assuming this leadership role.
DUTIES:
- Serve as new teacher mentor to first second and third year non-tenured teachers.
- Complete professional development in mentoring and implement this model with assigned beginning teachers.
- Assist with implementation of the New Teacher Academy and seminar courses.
- Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development and Mentor Development Specialists.
- Prepare and distribute materials for use in the implementation and support of the program.
- Maintain accurate time sheets and program related records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has obtained or is eligible for a Maryland Advanced Professional.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Knowledge of current trends in education including the Maryland College and Career Standards.
- Knowledge of the instructional improvement process.
- Knowledge of mentoring strategies.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
SALARY:An extra duty pay stipend of $1500will be provided contingent upon completion of theTeacher Mentors Handbook requirements.
