Job Description
The purpose of this position is to modify and prepare English InDesign layouts for use with translated text to ensure continuity of design across all languages. This position is also responsible to provide continuous delivery of content to web mobile and print channels; ensure efficient output and strict compliance with design and style guidelines.
They are charged with the design of PDF forms including layout and interactivity. They will also share and champion ideas that allow growth and enhance production related to Publishing Services including training and supporting vendors.
Other responsibilities may include InDesign support/training for the English design and editing teams backup support for language production and general troubleshooting.
This role works under the direction of a resource manager in the Publishing Services Departments to support production workflows and process improvements. Work assignments are received by tasks in the task management software in a work queue or are assigned directly from the resource manager for initiatives not related to a specific project. They also work closely with other groups like design editing systems support and vendors to accomplish tasks and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Template Design & Automation
- Develop and refine InDesign templates to support consistent design across languages.
- Improve automation processes for publishing workflows to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Content Production
- Convert Word documents into HTML files for multichannel projects.
- Apply editorial and design standards to ensure content accuracy accessibility and visual consistency.
- Review and apply feedback from clients editors and internal teams to improve and finalize content files.
Collaboration & Support
- Work under the direction of a resource manager to complete tasks assigned via task management software or direct assignment.
- Collaborate with design editing systems support teams and vendors to execute initiatives and resolve issues.
- Support English design editing teams and vendors by providing training in Adobe InDesign and guidance on preparing content for digital publishing platforms.
- Offer backup support for language production and general troubleshooting as needed.
Skillsets Required:
- Technical skills: Understand the role of markup languages text tagging XML structure and XSLT utilities in production processes. Familiar with HTML 5 principles and XSL syntax to execute transforms that prepare and repurpose text files for publishing platforms. Awareness of global language sets and the implications of varied font styling and layout parameters. Fluent in the most industry-relevant design tools such as InDesign.
- Team skills: Adapt to evolving demands of the large and complex organization. Able to work independently as well as with teams to accomplish work. Thrive under general supervision with assigned project responsibilities. Collaboratively counsel with leads editors designers project managers and vendors. Function within a multi-level approval system.
- Problem-solving skills: Apply technical knowledge and process awareness to brainstorm ideas and develop creative solutions to complex design and workflow challenges.
- Communication skills: Effectively articulate ideas and challenges using a good command of verbal and written communication to leads workflow managers and project managers. Provide instructions and specifications for production publishing and visual design clearly and professionally. Receive and provide constructive feedback to facilitate adjustments and improve workflows.
Additional job qualifications: Specific knowledge in various disciplines such as HTML XML JavaScript and XSL Syntax.

Qualifications
- Bachelor-level degree in a related field (such as Graphic Design Web Design Computer Science or Editing etc.) plus 4 years experience minimumoran equivalent combination of education and/or experience totaling 8 years minimum will be considered
- Strong experience with InDesign XML HTML or other programing language
