General Information
Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quwutsun Malahat Tsuubaa-asatx Halalt Penelakut Stzuminus Lyackson Pauquachin Ditidaht and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands waters plants and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks recreational cultural and social opportunities such as majestic mountains the rugged West Coast Trail serene lakes and one of the worlds tallest free-standing timber rail trestles.
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for a temporary full-time Senior Accounting Analyst position in the Financial Planning Section of the Finance Division within the Corporate Services Department. This temporary vacancy is resulting from a maternity leave backfill and is expected to end on January 1 2027.
Reporting to the Manager - Financial Planning the Senior Accounting Analyst is responsible for performing complex accounting work maintaining and auditing computerized financial records and performing a variety of technical functions. This includes preparing maintaining and analyzing financial accounts and records preparing financial reports and statements performing a variety of internal controls and audit functions and assisting in the preparation development and administration of the Regional Districts budgets. Considerable independence of judgement is allowed within established policy and recognized accounting procedures.
Qualifications
- Completion of one year of the CPA Professional Education Program
- Training in auditing and budgeting techniques
- Four years accounting experience with an ever-increasing level of responsibility
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License (please submit a recent drivers abstract with your application)

Hours of Work
Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and eligible for flex time. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings.
Where operationally appropriate and subject to change the CVRD has a Work From Home program. This program allows staff to work remotely with the number of remote days per week determined by operational requirements from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a CVRD worksite. This position works from the CVRDs main office in Duncan BC and at this time is eligible to be part of the Work From Home program potentially working remotely 1-2 days per week after a successful in-office training period. Please note this is not a fully remote position regular in-office presence is required.
Salary
Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358 $48.67 - $50.14 - $51.58 per hour (2025 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
