The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position ofParalegal in the Capital Punishment Project of the ACLUs National office in Durham NC. This is ahybrid rolethat has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight(8) days per month.
Partnering with ACLU affiliates in death penalty states and with coalition partners nationally the Capital Punishment Project promotes both abolition and systemic reform of the death penalty through a combination of systemic litigation direct representation systemic reform and public education and advocacy. We litigate in cases that exemplify the inherent unfairness and discrimination in capital cases. We work primarily in the courts of the South in states that have historically been discriminatory or reluctant to provide adequate resources for indigent clients facing the death penalty.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United.
Reporting to theDeputy Project Director theParalegalwill provide litigation and administrative support to the Projects legal team. This includes but is not limited to cite checking and formatting litigation documents maintaining litigation calendar files and other litigation items processing invoices generating expense reports as well as providing onsite administrative logistical and other support for filings arguments and hearings.
