Special Programs Assistant Director (212 days)
*LISD will prioritize internal candidates during first round interviews
Primary Purpose:
Assist the Director of Special Programs in the management and supervision of Special Education Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Response to Intervention (RTI) 504 Dyslexia Emergent Bilingual and At-Risk. Works to ensure provision of needed services for special programs to meet the needs of all students and ensure compliance with all state federal and local requirements.
Qualifications:
Required:
Education/Certification:
Masters degree from accredited college or university AND
Valid Texas license as an Administrator Diagnostician Teacher Speech-Language Pathologist Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Counseling granted by the state of Texas preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Understanding of federal state and local requirements associated with Special Programs
- Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers administrators parents community members and students
- Understanding of PEIMS and student/staff coding
- Excellent computer/software/technology skills
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
Experience:
Three years in Special Programs related field AND
Three years in an Educational classroom AND
Preferred administrator experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrate and understand the needs of the Special Programs through action and decisions
- Ensure that special populations data is targeted and monitored consistently across all campuses.
- Oversee and manage all special programs software.
- Oversee PEIMS reporting
- Make recommendations to Director regarding campus/staff needs
- Collaborate with staff to develop and manage Extended School Year (ESY) program
- Assist with all audits TEA cyclical monitoring reviews required TEA annual self-assessment Results Driven Accountability (RDA) data analysis Strategic Support Plan (SSP) documentation and implementation and required special program state indicators
- Annually monitor LEAs Results Driven Accountability (RDA) and create a Strategic Support Plan (SSP) with specific goals and strategies if needed for the district to target identified areas of need for all special programs to submit to TEA.
- Guarantee that all students who are not successful on the STAAR/EOC have in place the legally required Intensive Plan of Intervention (IPI) and/or an Accelerated Plan of Instruction (API) depending on grade level.
- Represent the district as the Transition Employment Designee (TED)
- Guarantee that all Special Programs handbooks and policies and procedures are updated consistent and easily accessible and distributed to parents/community
- Schedule quarterly parent/community special programs forums/trainings
- Supervise the LEAs Medicaid/SHARS program
- Supervise the LEAs In-Home Training/Parent Training program
- Routinely schedule teacher and campus trainings based on specific needs throughout the year on campuses.
- Support collaboration between Special Programs and General Education to promote coordination for programs and to provide the least restrictive environment as appropriate to meet each students individual needs.
- Attend ARD/504/LPAC/MTSS meetings as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in alignment with federal and state law and train campus and department staff yearly to ensure compliance
- Model positive professional behavior
- Demonstrate practices that promote collegiality team work and collaboration in decision-making among staff members
- Use practices that promote goal-directed behavior including implementing rewards for effective staff performance
- Maintain appropriate communication channels with district department and campus staff while being open to suggestion for improving department effectiveness
- Utilize positive collaborative and effective skills in conflict resolution
- Assist in the identification of needs for the Special Programs Department and assist in prioritizing topics for professional development
- Assist in facilitation of appropriate in-service activities for staff
- Assist in ensuring that department operations contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives
- Contribute to district -wide school improvement efforts
- Provide legal and technical assistance advise and provide problem analysis and solution assistance to administrators teachers and evaluation personnel in effort to ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations and to meet students individual needs.
- Assist in monitoring and reporting the extent to which Special Programs policies and district policies are implemented uniformly and consistently
- Represents and interprets Special Programs to professional staff parents and the general public
- Promotes communication and program development in Special Education to provide a continuum of services for the students with disabilities
- Represent the district in the out-of-district placements and non-public settings
- Participate in due process proceedings as needed
- Take initiative to develop personal and professional skills
- Supervise special programs homebound services
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of rules regulations and practices
- Attends coordinates community/professional meetings conferences as assigned by supervisor
- Seeks accepts and responds to evaluate feedback
- Actively participates in professional organizations/ activities
- Conduct oneself in a professional ethical and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators
- Accept administrative decisions and work enthusiastically toward achieving district/department goals
