Job Description

Summary Statement

A class incumbent is responsible for administration of the Correctional Arts Program for the Department of Correction.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
  • Plans develops and administers a correctional arts program in which inmates confined to correctional institutions/facilities produce arts and crafts in a self-development effort.
  • Purchases and/or procures operating supplies and equipment from a variety of sources to include donations or sale proceeds from community civic groups or private sector.
  • Applies for and processes grant requests and prepares the annual operating budget.
  • Accounts for all program materials and equipment maintains inventory and ensures that adequate supplies are on hand to meet program demands.
  • Provides information concerning the program to community and other interested groups.
  • Coordinates a marketing system for inmate products.
  • Prepares a variety of records reports and summaries relative to the program.
  • Recruits and supervises volunteers and inmate workers and contracts with outside appraisers and art brokers.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Correctional Arts Program Coordinator
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in planning teaching and implementing an arts program.
  2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  3. Knowledge of budget development which includes analyzing financial data and making long and short range plans and projections.
  4. Knowledge of grant writing.

Conditions of Hire
