Histology Technologist (Histotechnologist, HTL)

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and processing of tissue specimens.
• Accession specimens into the computer system following established protocols.
• Prepare tissue specimens through embedding cutting and staining procedures.
• Perform special stains as requested by pathologists.
• Prepare and cover-slip tissue slides.
• Assistpathologists with surgical and frozen sections.
• May serve as backup morgue assistant including: assisting pathologists during autopsies managing specimen identification and setup performing body closure procedures conducting cleanup operations.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance.
• Document all procedures in the Laboratory Information System.
• Follow quality control procedures andmaintainproper documentation.
• Participate in quality assurance activities andmaintainCAP compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Scienceor related field from an accredited institution.
• Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) through ASCP.
• Minimum of 3yearsof recent experience in Histology and Cytology.
• Strong knowledge of tissue preparation and staining techniques.
• Experience with computerized laboratory information systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communicationand interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass a federal background check; US Citizenship required.

All candidates must be able to:

• Sit stand walk lift squat bend twist and reach above shoulders during the work shift
• Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
• Lift up to 20 lbs
• Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
• Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
