IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Director
PAY GRADE: $21.00 per hour
HOURS: 3:00pm 5:30pm
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Responsible for cultivating students musical talents through vocal and instrumental instruction the Music Arts Instructor will prepare students to perform confidently as both soloists and ensemble members. This role emphasizes the development of music theory knowledge technical skills and artistic expression culminating in a polished showcase performance that highlights student creativity and collaboration across music dance and theater.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach music theory vocal techniques and basic instrumental skills appropriate for middle school learners.
Direct student ensembles and soloists in preparation for school and community performances.
Arrange adapt or select repertoire suitable for developing performers that reflects diverse cultures and genres.
Integrate music instruction with dance and theater components to support interdisciplinary productions.
Manage rehearsals effectively ensuring students are prepared engaged and performance-ready.
Coordinate sound equipment and technical needs for rehearsals and stage productions.
Provide constructive feedback to foster individual growth and ensemble cohesion.
Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that nurtures creativity discipline and teamwork.
Collaborate with school staff administrators and arts instructors to plan and deliver performances and events.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of music theory pedagogy and performance techniques.
Proficiency in multiple instruments and vocal instruction.
Ability to inspire and engage students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Skill in directing ensembles and coaching soloists.
Knowledge of stage performance practices including sound systems and live music coordination.
Strong organizational rehearsal management and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and integrate music into cross-arts performances.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in music education performing arts or related field required.
Demonstrated proficiency in vocal and instrumental instruction.
Previous experience teaching or directing student ensembles strongly preferred.
Experience organizing youth performances and working with diverse learners required.
CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to demonstrate vocal and instrumental techniques.
Frequent standing conducting and directing during rehearsals and performances.
Ability to lift and move instruments sound equipment and performance materials.
