At the Faculty of Medicine Department of Health Science and Technology a position as Professor in Medical Image Analysis and Artificial Intelligence is open for appointment from December 1st 2025 or soon thereafter.

At Department of Health Science and Technology we conduct research teaching and innovation within engineering biomedicine sports science public health neuroscience psychology and physiotherapy to develop sustainable technological solutions. Our mission is to contribute to increased quality of life for the benefit of the individual human being and society.

We educate bachelors and Master of Science within biomedical engineering medicine medicine with industrial specialization biomedical engineering sports science public health and clinical health and technology. Our graduates contribute to setting the agenda for future needs and solutions for increased public health and implementation of new health knowledge and technologies.

Currently our department has approximately 280 employees 100 Ph.D.-students enrolled in the Doctoral School in Medicine Biomedical Science and Technology and 1500 students in our bachelors and masters programs. We hold state of the art research and teaching facilities

Job description
The research group Medical Informatics and Image Analysis at Aalborg University is currently seeking a professor with strong theoretical and practical expertise in medical image analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) with experience in both methodological development and clinical application.

The Medical Informatics and Image Analysis group is a multidisciplinary group engaged in the development evaluation and implementation of advanced methods for analyzing medical images and other health data. The group develops and evaluates clinically meaningful decision support tools by integrating health data domain knowledge and machine learning. Key objectives include improving diagnosis monitoring and treatment through early detection of deterioration personalized risk prediction and modeling of complex patient pathways. Active research areas include chronic diseases cancer and neurological disorders with close collaboration with hospitals clinical research environments and industry partners. The group is also exploring future directions in integrative analysis combining imaging data with clinical data laboratory results genetic data and other health-related data types to enable more precise personalized and clinically relevant insights.

We are seeking applicants with an ambitious research agenda and documented experience in medical image analysis AI or related computational methods combining methodological development with clinical application. Experience in clinical collaborations national and international research partnerships securing external research funding PhD supervision and curriculum planning is required. Experience with cross-sector collaboration between universities hospitals and industry is an advantage as is experience with management or administration. The professor will also play a key role in the facultys strategic initiatives on AI and health data contributing to the development and strengthening of research and educational activities in the field.

Teaching activities include lecturing supervision coordination and planning of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) programs at bachelor and master levels as well as PhD supervision and training. Applicants must document pedagogical skills curricula development experience and educational program management. Emphasis will be placed on comprehensive teaching experience with programs within Biomedical Engineering and programs in the cross section of medicine and technology as well as contributions to broader educational offerings in medical informatics image analysis AI and computational health data analysis.

The educations are mainly taught in Danish but teaching and supervision in English is possible. If you are a non-native Danish speaker you will be expected to learn Danish with support from the department within the first few years of your employment to be able to conduct teaching.

To achieve merit at professor level we expect that the candidate has experience with teaching research or innovation and knowledge dissemination. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a particular significant contribution within one of the main areas: research or innovation or teaching or education.
