About the Role:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for primary health nursing services that focuses on the prevention early detection and management of complex chronic disease social and emotional wellbeing and health problems for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in line with Biripi model of care.
The Registered Nurse provides screening for patients of Biripi who access the GP Dentist Maternal Health Allied Health and visiting specialist services in a culturally safe manner. A focus is to identify patient preventative health social and emotional wellbeing and chronic disease management needs and complete clinical care as required.
The key objectives of the role include:
To assist patients with a range of health and health related matters identifying ways to improve health outcomes providing support to patients by:
- Ensure the delivery of culturally appropriate general health care to the community.
- Ensure educational and promotional components of the program are effective.
- Plan and implement care components.
- Assess and improve the overall health of patients within the community.
- Ensure appropriate medicine and vaccine cold chain processes are in place including storage security and management.
- Manage all infection prevention and control and ensure consistent implementation of relevant policies and procedures including sterilisation immunisation practice team and patient education notification of outbreaks and continuous quality improvement.
- Ensure Mandatory Reporting requirements are met.
- Ensure appropriate ordering checking and maintenance of medical supplies.
- Provide appropriate care and clinical advice to patients and source specialised support and consultation where needed.
- Administer medications in accordance with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Standards and organisations policies and procedures.
- Undertake procedures within scope of practice such as immunisation and other procedures as appropriate.
- Participate in the development of health promotions and education strategies ensuring feedback from the community is incorporated into planning.
- Monitor local Aboriginal health matters and needs to provide advice and action plans where appropriate.
- Develop partnerships with other health services and community groups to ensure the education and communication of health issues.
Essential Criteria:
- Bachelor of Nursing.
- Sound post-graduate experience.
- Sound knowledge in the areas of community health public health and Aboriginal Health including preventative and holistic health chronic disease management. and the impact of trauma and the social determinates of health on social and emotional wellbeing.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures values and beliefs. and demonstrated skills and ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Current Registration with AHPRA.
- Ability to hold a National Police Check and Working with Children Check Clearance.
- Current valid Drivers Licence.
- Demonstrated competence in use of the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with the local community.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate empathy when required.
