Linfield University is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Academic Advisor with a special emphasis on Pre-Nursing. Job Summary:


The professional staff Academic Advisor (Advisor) with a focus on Pre-Nursing plays a critical role in supporting students faculty staff and the Academic Advising Program. The Academic Advising Program at Linfield fosters inclusive partnerships between students and advisors that cultivate holistic educational experiences and personal growth through proactive and holistic advising. Advisors utilize teaching and learning processes to empower students to develop and realize their personal academic and professional goals. The Advisor is an active participant in student success initiatives including retention and persistence efforts as well as advising strategic planning and assessment addition the Advisor collaborates with various student support offices to facilitate a seamless transition for matriculating students as they enroll at the University and engage in the Linfield community. The Advisor is assigned to one or multiple areas of focus based on the needs of the Academic Advising Program and the experience and background of the Advisor. The area of focus for this position is Pre-Nursing.

Focus area responsibilities include


Developing and maintaining annual programming to support Pre-Nursing students including
o coordinating a Pre-Nursing affinity student club
o holding regular informational sessions and delivering timely program information to students
o coordinating the NURS*099 course for Pre-Nursing students on the McMinnville campus
o tracking Pre-Nursing student cohorts and academic progress towards program eligibility
Developing and maintaining Nursing related information for faculty and staff advisors including
o proactively communicating program requirements and policy changes
o holding regular workshops and trainings for Pre-Nursing Advisors

The Advisor may also support other advising functions focus areas and student populations as assigned by the Associate Provost depending on the changing needs of the program. The Advisor position is based on the McMinnville campus with occasional work on the Portland campus (12 times per month). The Advisor represents Academic Advising at Linfield University events and programs that meet the needs of students faculty parents employers and alumni.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Student Success and Retention Support


1.1. Participate in Advising Program and institutional student success committees and task forces orientation and pre-orientation programs etc.
1.2. Assess student needs and provide referrals to student support offices including Career Life and Design Learning Support Services Financial Aid Veterans Services etc. as appropriate
1.3. Develop and maintain efficient advising processes and advising functions for the area(s) of focus including facilitating informational sessions with students and faculty creating on-demand materials and meeting with students seeking entry or exit from programs (i.e. student returning from and/or going on a leave of absences)
1.4. Maintain proactive communication protocols regarding degree/program requirements and deadlines
1.5. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff across various departments and offices including program directors chairs and deans in the area(s) of focus

2. Student Advising Support


2.1. Coordinate with students in focus area(s) to ensure timely submission and accuracy of advising and registrar related forms
2.2. Plan prepare and conduct one-on-one and group advising sessions as appropriate
2.3. Partner with students to create revise and track academic plans

3. Manage Update and Track Advising Related Student Information


3.1. Maintain a collection of academic program requirements within area(s) of focus for easy dissemination to the advising community
3.2. Monitor student progress and track critical programmatic markers within the area(s) of focus
3.3. Collect critical advising related information for use in assessment efforts
3.4. Update and utilize cohort data to identify trends trajectories and needs for academic programs in the area(s) of focus

4. Collaborate with the Academic Advising Team


4.1. Participate in discussions regarding the review revision or implementation of internal advising processes
4.2. Engage and participate in the Advising Team professional development and training opportunities
4.3. Provide additional support to other Advising Team members during certain high-volume periods
4.4. Contribute to the holistic mentoring of Academic Advising student employees including Peer Advising Specialist (PAS) and Registration and Orientation Leaders (ROLs)
4.5. Collaborate with PAS as appropriate on tasks and projects

5. Maintain Professional Standards


5.1. Participate in institutional programs that enrich the educational experience of students
5.2. Review advising literature and stay current on successful advising practices
5.3. Participate in trainings workshops and discussions to improve professional capacity
5.4. Engage with advising professional organizations and the greater advising communities

Qualifications:


Bachelors degree or three years of experience in higher education in academic advising or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating:
Effective practical experience in the field of advising college students and/or student support services
Excellent customer service verbal communication and interpersonal skills and group presentation public speaking experience
Ability to communicate the merits of a liberal arts education specifically at Linfield University
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Demonstrated organizational and recordkeeping skills and attention to details
Working effectively with diverse cultures
Sensitivity to issues of confidentiality
Proficient computer skills including data tracking software

Preferred Qualifications:


Masters degree
Experience or background working in a health-related setting
Ability to converse in multiple languages
