Nofence is a Norwegian scale up who has built the worlds first virtual fencing solution for livestock. As we aim to revolutionize livestock management we will need top-notch competence in our Engineering team and we are now looking for an experienced Firmware developer. About the role
As a Firmware Developer you will join the Platform team which is responsible for the core of our solution from the firmware running on our collars through the backend that our devices communicate with to our data collection and processing pipelines. You will be making sure that our devices keep working well and that we keep developing our systems into a solid foundation from which we can launch new improvements features and designs.
The main responsibilities for this role will be:
Firmware design with a focus on efficiency and innovation: We are integrating Zephyr RTOS on ARM-based MCUs to manage a variety of components such as motion sensors GNSS receivers LTE modems and others. Your role will be central to our devices functionality ensuring robust and innovative firmware development.
Striking a practical balance: Youll be tasked with achieving an optimal mix of simplicity low power consumption and high performance. This role is about more than just coding; it involves optimizing and introducing new features that enhance the capabilities of our products making them more efficient and effective.
Advancing automated testing: You will play a key role in implementing and overseeing tests in Python within our Continuous Integration (CI) framework. Your efforts will focus on developing automated testing processes that thoroughly assess new features guaranteeing the reliability and quality of our firmware before it is deployed to customers.
Collaborating with our team of engineers: Youll help foster an environment where creativity and practical engineering merge. Your expertise in firmware development will shape our products and promote ongoing teamwork and improvement.
Understanding and solving customer needs: Close cooperation with the product team will be essential to grasp user requirements and devise the most effective engineering solutions for the challenges our customers face.

About you
The right candidate is preferred to have the following qualifications:
A relevant Masters degree or equivalent. Alternatively applicants with a Bachelors degree complemented by significant relevant work experience are also encouraged to apply.
5 years of experience in firmware development.
Have knowledge about or are familiar with these technologies: GNSS LTE and Bluetooth communication.
Have some experience in reading schematics and component data sheets operating basic instruments like oscilloscopes and logic analysers and soldering.
Solid programming skills with experience in C embedded RTOS and Python.
Experience in designing and developing robust firmware tests for embedded devices.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Fluent English oral and written communication skills. Our working language is English.

Managing livestock has always been a challenge. Humanity has tried everything from herding with dogs to walling the animals in with barbed wire electric and wooden fences but these are costly and time-consuming solutions and often in conflict with the local wildlife.
