Senior Software Development Engineer, ProdOps OAT, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast reliable internet to customers and communities around the world and weve designed the system with the capacity flexibility and performance to serve a wide range of customers from individual households to schools hospitals businesses government agencies and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Role Overview

As a Machine Learning (ML) Engineer you will lead the design architecture and development of end-to-end AI/ML solutions at scale owning the infrastructure for building and deploying these systems. Working closely with scientists and engineers youll help implement AWS-based AI/ML and GenAI solutions that meet both technical and business needs.

As a pioneering ML Engineer within Kuiper ProdOps you will drive hands-on development of high quality ML solutions. You are a technical leader that tackles new initiatives and engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders. Your ability to synthesize and communicate complex topics to diverse audiences will be key to solving business problems and innovating for the future. You will strive for simplicity combining deep technical expertise with creating problem-solving and strategic thinking making high-impact on the business and driving innovation for the future.


Key job responsibilities
- Design develop and maintain advanced machine learning architectures and intelligent systems
- Create robust scalable ML infrastructure and pipelines
- Develop end-to-end AI solutions addressing complex technical and business challenges
- Partner with scientists and engineers to architect machine learning models with a focus on performance scalability and efficiency
- Conduct advanced research and prototype innovative AI/ML approaches
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical solutions with strategic objectives
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing
- Lead technical design reviews and provide architectural guidance
- Operate in a dynamic environment to deliver high quality software against competitive schedules with rapidly-evolving priorities
- Convey complex ideas in simple terms to both technical and non-technical audiences using clear written and verbal communication

- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch TensorFlow)
- 3 years of hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning methods including model training fine-tuning and inference with a strong focus on predictive modeling and natural language processing
- Proven track record of building deploying and operationalizing ML models on cloud platforms (e.g. Amazon SageMaker) ensuring scalability and performance in real-world applications
- Hands-on experience with generative AI technology

- 5 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Master or PhD in Computer Sciences Electrical Engineering or Mathematics with specialization in machine learning deep learning or natural language processing
- Strong ability to interact communicate present and influence within multiple levels of the organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
