Job Summary: The Engineer VII will assist in leading a team of engineers and designers. This role is that of a lead design manager and lead project manager. The position will require a person that has a wide variety of knowledge to include but not limited to Signal Circuit Design Application Software Estimating Materials Scheduling Signal Construction Testing & Commissioning and Project Management. The person in this role will supervise and mentor less experienced engineers and addition this role will interact closely with contract associates and subcontractors. The position will report directly to the Signal Line of Service Leader. As our signal group grows this position will be of very high responsibility and will become more of a 90% management and supervision role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and check signal hardware circuit plans and Programming for grade crossing and wayside projects; be able to design for different Railroads Commuter Rail and Transit Systems
- Assist in the development of bidding documents for small and large proposals to include technical descriptions design scope assumptions & exclusions and estimate effort & costs
- Manage project budgets schedules billing and client needs
- Conduct regular meetings with clients
- Supervise all contract associates and subcontractors
- Conduct field site visits for preliminary engineering and assess existing conditions
- Produce preliminary design sketches for project scope
- Produce phased design sketches and plans
- Develop signal specifications
- Supervise the paper checking simulation and rack testing of application programs for solid state processors
- Understand Positive Train Control design and implementation
- Travel to conduct signal cut-in oversight with contractors in the field and/or provide remote design support to contractors through to commissioning
- Additional Duties: Execute other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency with electronic communication including email and text and standard office applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Solid oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with other staff members and internal & external customers.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- 15 years of prior experience required.
Additional Qualifications Certifications etc.:
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or PE certification.
- Bilingual- Spanish a Plus
