Role Purpose
Join the British Council Tokyo Exams Academic Team as a Test Data Manager and play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy and efficiency in test taker records and result data sets. Collaborating with Operations and Technology Teams you will ensure that individual candidate data is correct and reporting to individuals Junior High Schools and Boards of Education is completed precisely and on schedule. Your attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will help uphold the integrity of our assessments and support test takers in their academic journeys.
Role Accountabilities
As a Test Data Manager you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy consistency and completeness of test data. You will oversee reporting processes to the Global Marking team ensuring that marking data is correctly documented and monitored. A key aspect of your role involves managing data sets with precision ensuring that reports delivered to candidates parents schools and Boards of Education are both timely and accurate.
As part of your responsibilities you will support the enforcement of data security policies working alongside the information governance team to maintain industry standards. Your expertise in data cleansing will be critical particularly in reconciling candidate records post-test administration identifying duplicate performances and ensuring that only the necessary records are uploaded to the marking platform. You will also coordinate the review of paper records reconciling attendance records when required.
Your contributions will extend to reporting activities where you will collaborate with teams in Japan and the UK to finalize data sets and generate reports tailored to various audiences. Leading small teams in data cleansing and quality assurance activities will be an essential part of your role including overseeing audio file reviews before they are released. You will also support data retrieval efforts for research studies enquiries on results and client requests.
In addition to these responsibilities you will work closely with the Operations Team and the Accommodations Manager to ensure that relevant records are maintained as test administration approaches. Your attention to detail commitment to accuracy and ability to manage data effectively will help maintain the integrity of test results and contribute to the success of test takers.
Role specific skills knowledge and experience:
The ideal candidate should possess advanced skills in Excel and Power BI with a strong understanding of data set hygiene and experience managing large datasets. Exceptional attention to detail is crucial along with prior experience working in educational settings whether with schools Boards of Education or an assessment provider. The ability to work in agile or cross-functional teams adapting flexibly to changing data needs or project priorities is highly valued.
Preferred qualifications include experience in producing educational reports using large datasets proficiency in SQL Python or R for data manipulation and analysis and knowledge of statistical techniques such as correlation analysis regression and hypothesis testing. Familiarity with data privacy regulations such as GDPR or Japans Act on the Protection of Personal Information along with ethical data handling practices would be advantageous. Candidates with experience in building interactive dashboards or automated reporting systems for external stakeholders are encouraged to apply.
Further Information
Language: Proficiency in both English and Japanese is essential for this role with written and verbal fluency in English required for navigating British Council systems and global processes and Japanese proficiency across speaking listening writing and reading necessary at a C1 level.
Education: A bachelors degree in education or a related field is required; alternatively candidates with significant and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
