Job Description

  • 2 Year Fixed Term Contract
  • Hybrid working environment (1 day monthly in the office)

Pro-Rata Salary Range of $128800k Base to $138500k Base (dependent on experience skills and capabilities) Plus 12% Superannuation and access to Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging with a value of up to $15900. (more information provided below).

The Opportunity:

This opportunity is part of the Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program which is dedicated to conducting ethical and impactful research to improve the health and wellbeing of First Nations peoples.

The role contributes to advancing the Healthy Islands vision in Papua New Guinea a holistic and community-led framework focused on creating supportive environments strengthening health systems and ensuring access to culturally appropriate healthcare.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager (SPM) to provide leadership and oversight advancing the Healthy Islands vision through research projects and initiatives in PNG. This includes direct management of assigned projects operational leadership across a portfolio of work and support for partnerships with communities government and academic institutions.

The SPM is responsible for ensuring the efficient timely and compliant delivery of collaborative research projects. They will maintain a strong focus on capacity-building and ethical compliance while strengthening engagement with research partners funders government agencies and community stakeholders through expert operational advice and strategic input.

The role will work closely with researchers academics implementation partners and international stakeholders to ensure projects are effectively planned coordinated and delivered in alignment with shared goals.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support local capacity strengthening through mentoring and co-leadership approaches
  • Demonstrate and role model TGIs core behaviours in all aspects of work and interactions with project team members and stakeholders
  • Represent the projects in relevant meetings forums and working groups.
  • Manage the planning coordination and implementation of assigned research projects.
  • Establish and maintain systems to track project progress outputs and outcomes.
  • Lead or support ethics submissions and manage ongoing approvals in PNG and Australia
  • Ensure that all projects comply with ethical regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Champion culturally safe respectful and ethical research practices particularly in Pacific Island Nation settings.
  • Attend and actively participate in preparation and delivery of project management related training and workshops
  • Support alignment between PNG-based initiatives and the goals of the organisation.
