Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant include but are not limited to:

  • Examines and/or analyzes accounting records financial statements or other financial reports to assess accuracy completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards for the Ohio Lottery Commission Office of Finance-General Accounting department.
  • Examines and analyzes assigned general ledger accounts and related financial information.
  • Conducts complex monthly reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts to ensure balancing.
  • Prepares journal entries for assigned accounts and downloads to general ledger.
  • Examines journal entries to ensure accounting record detail downloaded to general ledger is balanced.
  • Completes analysis of out of balance accounts and makes adjusting journal entries to reconcile.
  • Researches and resolves errors in assigned accounts.
  • Gathers account information from various software programs applications and agency departments. Inputs account information into various software programs.
  • Examines and analyzes Electronic Fund Transfer analysis file.
  • Maintains Lottery Profits Education Fund transfer schedule.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and co-workers to assist in preparation of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (i.e. ACFR). Provides financial information from assigned general ledger accounts to be included in ACFR. Researches organizes edits composes analyzes and revises financial and accounting statements reports and records to include in ACFR.
  • Maintains and prepares tax information for foreign prizewinners.
  • On as needed basis examines and analyzes agency cash accounting records.
  • Performs other duties and works on special projects as directed.

Official State of Ohio Classification: Financial Analyst (66562)

OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit position.

Promotional/lateral transfers honored pursuant to the bargaining agreement.

This position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime) from the Fair Labor Standards Act.

ORC 3770.021

EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AS REQUIRED BY SECTION 3770.02(D) OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE.

30 months experience or 30 months training in accounting &/or finance to include an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration accounting finance or related field; 6 months experience or 6 months training in accounting &/or finance to include an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.

-Or 12 months experience as Financial Associate 66561.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

NOTE: Successful completion of the Fiscal Academy may be substituted for 4 months of required accounting/fiscal experience referenced in this portion of the minimum qualifications.
