An exciting opportunity has arisen for a for a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Teacher for Cognition and Learning to join Leicestershires Learning Support Team. We are looking for a qualified teacher who has expertise in Cognition and Learning with knowledge skills and experience in supporting pupils across a range of special educational needs including Communication and Interaction Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and Sensory needs

About the Role

The Learning Support Team is a well-regarded and welcoming team consisting of Specialist Teachers with a wealth of knowledge and experience and a passion for inclusion. As part of Specialist Teaching Service the teams aim is to improve opportunities outcomes and experiences for children and young people with SEND in partnership with families educational settings and organisations.

The successful applicant will use knowledge skills and experience to determine children and young peoples learning communication social emotional and sensory needsacrossKey Stages 1-5 identifying and developing evidence-based strategies and interventions in order to improve outcomes for learners with a wide range of complex special educational needs. We are looking for teachers who are knowledgeable about the National Curriculum appropriate interventions and the barriers children and young people with complex needs can face.

You willwork with children and young people their parents / carers and school staff to identify both the strengths and challenges the child or young person is experiencing. Using this knowledge you will then provide advice and information to identify provision which builds on their strengths and meets their identified needs. This will involve working collaboratively with Specialist Teachers Educational Psychologists and other agencies where appropriate. Therefore we welcome applications from highly motivated creative practitioners who enjoy working in a collaborative solution-focussed way.

The role involves maintaining thorough records of work undertaken and contributing to Education Health and Care Plan assessments and annual addition you will engage with ongoing professional development to identify develop and deliver resources that promote curriculum access for learners with complex Cognition and Learning needs.

About You

To apply for this post you must:

  • Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status with evidence of further training and development in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. It is highly desirable that you will hold a Level 7 qualification related to Cognition and Learning.
  • Substantial experience of working directly with pupils with complex cognition and learning needs including knowledge of effective teaching and learning approaches and resources to support the attainment and inclusion of these pupils
  • Experience of delivering of training including in-service training to teachers
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate positively to children young people parents and other professionals and establish effective working relationships with colleagues educational settings and partner agencies
  • Significant experience of working appropriately in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND and the ability carry out all duties in line with LCC Safeguarding policies and procedures and fulfil relevant safeguarding competencies
  • Ability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity; Trust and respect; Flexibility; Openness and Transparency
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment where appropriate in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act will include requirements to work flexibly around holiday periods in line with the service requirements and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel to temporary bases such as schools touch-down bases etc.
