Job Summary

SMARTS/Network Monitoring Engineer

Location: Onsite in Woodlawn MD
Key Required Skills
Strong knowledge of SMARTS platform including NETOPS RedHat Linux TCP/IP network knowledge GitHub and Bitbucket.

Position Description
Planning project management project monitoring and implementation of the network monitoring system.
Testing validating modifying and integrating various scripts programs software and other components to improve the functionality and effectiveness of the network monitoring and management platforms
Maintaining network performance management documents and status reports
Researching testing and validating new network performance monitoring platform
Creating and maintaining scripts APIs custom coded applications and software to ensure optimum performance and effectiveness of the network monitoring platforms
Creating and maintaining scripts Visio diagrams of the monitoring devices and their placement

Detailed Skills Requirements
FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Mathematics Engineering or a related field.
Masters or Doctorate degree may substitute for required experience
10 years of experience as a Network Engineer focusing on network performance management.
7 years of experience with SMARTS enterprise network monitoring system with at least 3 years specific to implementation and configuration of SMARTS tool.
4 years of experience with RHEL combine between versions 7/8/9.
4 years of experience with a high-level scripting language such as Python or Perl.

FACTORS TO HELP YOU SHINE (Required Skills)
These skills will help you succeed in this position:
Knowledge/experience/advanced skills on Broadcom Service Assurance (former SMARTS) monitoring tool.
Broadcom NetOps monitoring tools knowledge and experience is a plus.
Ability to produce operational documentation using industry best practices in technical writing.
Ability to program in a Java enterprise (J2EE) environment using platforms such as Java Server Faces v2 (JSF 2) Enterprise Java Beans v3 (EJB 3) Java-based Ajax library.
Experience working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
Experience with Microsoft Visio for creating Network Diagrams.
Experience with Microsoft Project for creating and updating project plans.
TCP/IP networks knowledge.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Perl and Python advanced scripting skills.

HOW TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD (Desired Skills)
Showcase your knowledge of modern development through the following experience or skills:
Perl Python and Java advanced programmer skills.
Developing on JBoss EAP environments skills and experience.
MySQL database management experience.
Knowledge of version control tools like Git or Bitbucket.
Experience developing on Service Now is a plus.
Cisco Certifications such as CCNP or CCIE.
RedHat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Demonstrated experience growing maintaining problem monitoring and engineer problem resolutions.
Experience developing best practice project plans engineering scripts and documentation for network performance management.
Prior Federal government experience
Self-starter highly motivated individual who adapts and isnt afraid to volunteer in a dynamic work environment
Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities

Education
Bachelors degree with 7 years of experience
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
