What Were Looking For:
Are you a passionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ready to help students communicate connect and thrive Heres what youll need to join our team:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Deaf Education Special Education or a related field is required. A Masters degree is preferred.
- Certification: Valid Texas Educator Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC12) issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
- Additional Requirements: Knowledge of special education laws including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and familiarity with the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) process. CPR certification is preferred.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are preferred but not required.
Your Role:
As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) youll play a vital role in empowering students by supporting language development access to instruction and full participation in their educational experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop Individualized Plans: Collaborate with ARD committees to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that reflect students communication modes language needs and learning goals.
- Provide Specialized Instruction: Deliver direct instruction in language communication strategies (including ASL and/or oral language) auditory skills and academic content tailored to students individual needs.
- Monitor Progress: Collect and analyze student data to evaluate academic and communication growth adjusting instructional strategies to support IEP goal attainment.
- Collaborate with Teams: Partner with general education teachers interpreters related service providers and families to support student learning across all settings. Actively participate in ARD meetings and student support discussions.
- Promote Access and Inclusion: Advocate for and implement accommodations modifications and assistive listening technologies to ensure equitable access to instruction and school participation.
- Support Communication and Social Skills: Foster self-advocacy social interaction and communication confidence across environments through individualized strategies and positive reinforcement.
- Prepare for Transitions: Help students develop skills for post-secondary education employment and independent living including the use of adaptive communication tools and self-advocacy techniques.
