The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries has partnered with the Department of Defense (DOD) to offer a FREE 16-week training opportunity at The Institute of Advanced and Learning and Research in Danville VA. This is an unpaid opportunity however the training and lodging/housing in Danville VA will be provided and paid for by a grant from the Department of housing and utilities for this training is covered by the program and all participants willbe housed in downtown Danvilles River district. Participants will be responsible for all other living expenses including meals etc.

NDT stands forNon-Destructive Testing. At NNS it refers to the inspection of WELDS using methods that allow inspectors to evaluate and collect data about a WELD or welded component without permanently altering/damaging/destroying it.

The 16-week/600 hour training program will cover safety an introduction to all methods of NDT (Non Destructive Testing)

Visual Testing (VT)
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Radiographic Testing (RT)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Radiation Safety

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) functions as a support department to the shipyard providing all NDT required by specifications drawings Standard Procedures and Regulatory Agencies. NDT services provided are Radiography (R/T) Ultrasonic Testing (U/T) Magnetic Particle Testing (M/T) Dye Penetrates Testing (P/T) and Eddy Current Testing (E/T).

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs. Must be able to work at extreme heights. Must be able to work in small tight or confined spaces

Nice to Have

Technical experience and/or education is preferred. Upper level math skills including Algebra 2 and higher are a plus. Ability to read blueprints is a plus
