Basic Job Functions:
The Chief Metallurgist is responsible for providing leadership for the Quality Assurance department and for developing an effective strategy incorporating all departments to achieve the quality goals of the division through a team-oriented approach. Acting as a technical resource this position will be directly involved in new product development evaluating and resolving customer claims reviewing product inquiries failure analysis coordinating continuous improvement projects and supporting the production teams. The Chief Metallurgist is a strong safety advocate and will find ways to inspire participation in the safety program by Q/A teammates and add value to the safety culture of the division. This position is a main point of contact for customers providing technical support seeking new business opportunities and conducting educational programs. This position includes supervisory responsibilities. The successful candidate will champion a continuous improvement mindset be customer-focused and facilitate implement and maintain Nucor Utahs quality management system certification programs and ensure that Nucor Steel Utah is effectively and adequately meeting all ISO 9001 requirements.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience in steelmaking steelmaking process optimization and/or product development preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
Bachelors degree or higher in Metallurgy Materials Science or a related technical degree.
Understanding of ISO 9001 ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 or similar programs.
