Research and Enterprise (R&E) fosters research excellence and supports researchers to be successful.
We assist researchers with pursuing funding opportunities partnering with next users of research (including national and local government non-government organisations and business) completing grant applications and the establishment of research contracts.
The role Te mahi
Senior Research Administrators provide support to one or more research client portfolios (normally a group of academic departments or units).
Working in partnership with the Research and Enterprise Managers and Advisers the role provides effective and efficient pre-award and post-award administrative support for research grants and supports the Research and Enterprise Division researchers and University meet obligations to research sponsors and collaborators.
A typical day in this role would include managing emails from a shared email account with a sub-folder allocated specific to this appointment and the portfolios in which this role supports.
As a Senior Research Administrator you will also:
Help manage the overarching submission and results processing of funding applications.
Process contracts variations and reporting within the database RAS a database newly introduced into the division in early 2025.
Perform document checking (QA) ensuring details in documents correspond to details as entered in the database.
Liaise with a variety of personnel both internal and external to the University.
Manage research applications and contracts within a variety of funder portals including USA and EU portals.
The role is a key administrative conduit for external funders and is part of a team flexibly providing administrative services across the Division and the University. This role is based within the CFI building in an open plan setting shared with other Snr Research Administrators.

Successful candidates will also have:
A recognised qualification appropriate to the role.
Experience working in a busy and/or complex administration role.
Confidence and ability to learn and navigate various databases websites and quirky user portals.
Expertise in use of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook Teams Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stake holders (Internal and external).
An ability to work both autonomously and with others as this is an in-part hybrid team therefore knowledge sharing & communication is critical.

This is a permanent part time position (30 hours a week). Based in Ōtepoti Dunedin
Support to this role is located primarily in Dunedin (7 colleagues) with additional colleagues in Wellington and Christchurch as well as a Hybrid Team Leader who frequents the Dunedin office.
Training will be provided at the commencement of this appointment with ongoing in person and on-line support from colleagues eager to help you succeed.
The salary appointment range for this role at Level 5 is $69931 to $74609. Top of Range is $80285. Note: As a part-time position the salary range for this role will be the pro-rata equivalent of the annual full-time salary range listed.
