Job Description

Job Summary:

This role is for a Surgical Technologist in an acute care Level I trauma center and Magnet hospital. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience and proficiency in a wide range of surgical specialties including general surgery gynecology neurosurgery orthopedics and trauma. The Surgical Technologist will work 5 eight-hour days with weekend rotations and on-call responsibilities as needed.
Location: Springfield Illinois United States
Responsibilities:
- Assisting surgeons during surgical procedures across various specialties.
- Preparing surgical instruments equipment and supplies.
- Maintaining a sterile surgical field.
- Monitoring patient vital signs and reporting any changes to the surgical team.
- Performing various tasks as assigned within the scope of practice.
- Adhering to all safety protocols including aseptic technique radiation safety and sharps safety.
- Participating in the Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure.
- Floating within the scope of practice to meet facility needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in a general OR setting teaching hospital and trauma center.
- Proficiency in a wide range of surgical specialties (detailed in the input).
- Proficiency in handling various surgical equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique isolation precautions radiation safety sharps safety specimen handling/labeling and Universal Protocol.
- Must live >50 miles from facility.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CST certification.
- Experience in a teaching hospital.
- Experience in a Level I trauma center.
Special Considerations:
- Weekend work is required approximately once a month (16 hours).
- On-call responsibilities are required as needed.
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD for fingerprinting.
- All time off requests must be reviewed and approved by the manager.
- Up to 36 hours of call-offs are permitted per 13-week assignment without pay; additional call-offs will be billed. On-call shifts in lieu of call-offs count as called-off shifts.
- Scrub color is provided.
- Parking permit required (no cost).

Scheduling:
- 5 eight-hour days (0645-1515).
- Weekend rotation (approximately once a month 16 hours).
- Schedule requests should be discussed with the manager.
