Job Description:
A paraprofessional under the direction and supervision of the occupational therapist who provides selected occupational therapy interventions as indicated per treatment plan. He/she will progress patient toward established goals and maintain communication with the occupational therapist in regard to each patients status. The assistant will also provide appropriate education to patient and or family.
Essential Functions
- Performs modalities (moist heat ice pararffin).
- Performs therapeutic procedures (exercise neuromuscular reeducation edema massage orthotic fitting and training prosthetic training dynamic activities compression garments).
- Utilizes exercise equipment (pulley system UBE computer desensitization dowel).
- Reports to occupational therapist when re-evaluations are needed and/or changes in patient status.
- Delegates tasks and duties as indicated.
- Participates in continuing education departmental meetings and in-service programs.
- Adjusts patient care schedule and prioritizes tasks as indicated.
- Performs documentation per policy and procedures (progress notes discharge summary multi-disciplinary education and treatment plan forms).
- Performs patient and family education regarding interventions disease/injury safety and wellness.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
- Participates in discharge planning with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Follows all regulations for charge determination and billing completes required documents or system for supply and treatment charges.
- Participates in clinical supervision/instruction of students.
- Comply with all departmental and facility policy procedures and directives (i.e. role delineation and scope of care).
- Performs other duties in a timely manner as assigned.
Additional Job Description:
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited OT school.
- Registered with the Kentucky State Board of Occupational Therapy.
Experience (required and preferred):
- Acute care trauma care experience and/or rehab experience preferred.
Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
