Job Description
Old Road Medical Practice is a friendly forward-thinking GP surgery committed to providing high-quality care to our patients. We are looking for a motivated and compassionate healthcare assistant (HCA) to join our supportive clinical team on a full-time basis.
As a healthcare assistant you will work under the supervision of our nurses and GPs to provide safe effective and patient-centred care. You will support the clinical team in delivering a wide range of services from health checks to treatment room duties while ensuring patients feel comfortable and well cared for.
Key responsibilities include;
- Carrying out new registration checks
- Phlebotomy and collection of specimens
- Performing ECGs
- Undertaking NHS health checks and lifestyle advice (e.g. diet exercise smoking cessation)
- Assisting with wound care and dressings
- Administering vaccinations (e.g. flu) if qualified
- Ensuring clinical rooms are well-stocked clean and equipment is maintained
- Supporting infection control and health and safety protocols
- Updating electronic patient records accurately and promptly
- Providing general support to the nursing and GP team as required
About the Candidate
Essential:
- Experience as a healthcare assistant or in a patient-facing healthcare role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Empathetic caring and patient-focused attitude
- Good IT skills and accuracy in record keeping
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a GP practice or primary care setting
- Phlebotomy ECG wound care or vaccination experience
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification
- Driving licence as occasional home visits may be required and to work from our branch surgery.
