Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:
This purpose of thisposition is to provide project coordination for community-engaged researchprotocols conducted within the multidisciplinary pediatricobesity treatment and research center in the Department of Pediatrics atChildrens Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University (CHoR).
Qualifiedcandidates will serve as a research coordinator community liaison for grant-funded research studies under the direction of the PrincipalInvestigator (PI) examining pediatric obesity prevention and treatment conductedin the Healthy Lifestyles Center at Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU. He/She will be responsible for managing components of multidisciplinaryresearch studies including: community engagement services; participantrecruitment and retention; eligibility determination; consent/assentprocedures; coordination of study visits; data collection; and conduct of studyassessments. This position will conduct all necessary training. The researchcoordinator may also supervise the activities of other research staff for thecenter. This position will report to the Research Manager and work closely withother Research Coordinators on studyprotocols. This position is contingent on grant-funding.
Core Responsibilities:
Research Project Coordination
Maintain active Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) certification or other requirements for the ethical conduct of research and adheres to these standards re: participant confidentiality and safety.
Understand and adhere to all human subject protection and IRB regulations required for clinical research. Understand duty to report obligations related to research conduct and the appropriate university channels for reporting concerns.
Communicate closely with the PI and Research Manager
Attend regular research meetings
Follow all university and School of Medicine procedures for activation and management of clinical research.
Assist the PI with the completion of study related materials (e.g. manuals of operations)
Understand and adhere to all human subject protection and IRB regulations required for clinical research. Comply with government and VCU policies and guidelines regarding human subjects research. Understand duty to report obligations related to research conduct and the appropriate university channels for reporting concerns.
Assist the Research Manager with the coordination preparation and collection all necessary study documentation under their scope.
Assist research team with other duties as assigned.
Community Coordination
Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations (e.g. medical practices schools) as needed to accomplish program goals.
Prepare reports presentations and other materials to inform community members of research goals study progress and updates.
Attend community meetings and present information about current and upcoming program offerings.
Oversee community-based data collection activities; working closely with pre-identified community contacts to meet study targets and timelines
Recruitment and Retention
Assist the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator with the implementation of recruitment activities accordingly.
Conduct screenings to determine participant eligibility.
Assist with participant enrollment to include consent/assent procedures.
Implement assessment and retention protocols.
Support the PI and other senior study staff in following community organizations through all study activities to ensure that the study is conducted in compliance with all requirements
Schedule participants for study visits according to protocol
Minimum Hiring Standards:
B.A./B.S. with degree in health-related science.
Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) certification
Excellent organizational time management and critical thinking skills.
Basic knowledge of pediatric obesity and fundamental research principles.
Ability to interface effectively with external organizations such as medical practices schools and other community organizations.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with families across a broad cultural and socioeconomic spectrum.
Ability to work independently and with groups.
Ability to work in a diverse environment.
Flexibility with work hours to include evenings weekends and early mornings as needed.
Flexibility to travel throughout the Metro Richmond area.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
Masters degree
Experience using EPIC or other electronic medical record system
Experience usingExcel SPSS REDCap
Bilingual in Spanish and English
