- Do you love the game of soccer and want to help young people develop their skills and enjoy the game as much as you do We have just the job for you! The Department of Parks Recreation & Culture Youth Services Division is seeking a part-time Youth Services Specialist to coach instruct mentor and engage high school-age youth in activities related to the game of soccer.The Youth Services Specialist plans develops and leads activities that are fun and entertaining while helping participants learn game fundamentals and safety regulations develop new techniques enhance existing skills improve teamwork practice good sportsmanship and enjoy friendly competition. Youll create and lead a positive engaging and encouraging environment for youth participating in the program helping them develop physical and social skills and self-confidence.You must have comprehensive knowledge of the functions skills and activities related to the game of soccer including coaching and drills; and you must have some previous experience instructing and/or supervising soccer. You must have a full drivers license (not provisional license) and a valid unexpired Medical Examiners Certificate/Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card (may be obtained through the City upon hire). Must be responsible dependable patient and punctual; enjoy and be confident working with youth; have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills; and be able to understand follow and provide written and oral directions. Must be able to interact with program participants parents and staff in a positive courteous respectful and professional manner. Must be safety conscious and committed to enforcing safety rules and regulations. Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish (desirable).Starting hourly rate is within the anticipated hiring range and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Hours per week will vary based on operational needs but will generally not exceed an average of 10 hours per week; some evening and weekend work may be required. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.
Job Functions
- What you will do with us:
- Supervise activities and participants.
- Develop detailed plans for program activities and prepare properly and adequately; keep to a time line to ensure that set schedule is followed.
- Monitor progress of participants and assist with skills improvement and development.
- Maintain effective and consistent communication with program participants supervisor and other staff.
- Ensure all rules regulations and codes of conduct are adhered to and the safety of all participants is protected.
- Maintain appropriate levels of control fairness and consistency in all situations.
- Ensure that participants conduct themselves in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Resolve participant conflicts with tact and diplomacy.
- Keep proper records and prepare reports as necessary.
- Complete written reports on accidents/incidents that occur.
- Serve as a model for and promote responsible behavior.
- Create a safe positive and encouraging environment for youth participating in the program.
- Provide excellent service pursue continuous improvement and exceed expectations.
Qualifications
- What you will need to be considered:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Skill and physical ability to play and coach the game of soccer and general knowledge of the sport (rules technique drills equipment safety precautions etc.).
- Some previous experience instructing and/or supervising soccer; prior experience providing instruction in fundamentals and skill development preferred.
- Previous experience working with high school aged youth.
- Valid full drivers license (not a provisional license).
- Valid unexpired Medical Examiners Certificate/Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish or other language (desirable).
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
- Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties and responsibilities.
