The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is seeking a Natural Resources Deer Program Pre-Professional to support its ongoing white-tailed deer management program. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on field experience in wildlife management conservation and ecological restoration while contributing to the health and balance of DuPage Countys natural areas.
If you are pursuing a career in natural resources wildlife ecology or conservation biology this role offers valuable fieldwork exposure and professional development in a supportive mission-driven environment.
Assist with the Districts ongoing white-tailed deer management program.
Conduct field dressing of lethally removed deer and ensure safe responsible handling of harvested animals.
Collect data related to wildlife and ecosystem health to support research and conservation goals.
Operate vehicles (pick-up trucks and ATVs) for transportation to and from field sites.
Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
Contribute to wildlife ecology and restoration projects across the preserves.
Promote and follow all safety rules procedures and risk management practices.
Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
Valid drivers license in good standing.
Prior experience with wildlife or natural resource management preferred.
Strong field skills and the ability to work independently with attention to detail.
Comfort and proficiency with tools including knives used in field dressing.
Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
Strong organizational abilities to maintain accurate records and data.
