Job Description

General Position Summary

Job Number:

King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking a motivated and skilled Public Services Assistant (PSA) to provide service in the Tukwila and Burien Libraries.
PSAs in the Tukwila and Burien libraries frequently assist patrons in using computers library printers printing from cell phones scanning and other ways ofutilizing library technology and resources. PSAs often need to directly de-escalate and resolve disputes & disruptions in the library space and prioritize safety when managing behaviors. Their focus on equitably enforcing the Patron Code of Conduct with all patrons - including teens - is coupled with ensuring our libraries remain welcoming inclusive spaces for all community members including many English-language learners and individuals navigating challenges around housing mental illness and addiction. While also supporting physical library material handling and circulation this PSA role assists in person online and over the phone when working with community members. Additionally PSAs commonly provide information about library materials equipment programs and services to help our patrons achieve success through access to technology spaces guidance and opportunities.
The successful candidates for this position will proactively develop and maintain positive relationships with coworkers and patrons from all walks of life prioritize equity by bridging the gaps caused by language technology and other barriers and routinely identify & share opportunities and resources to support success within the Tukwila and Burien communities.

Sunday: 10:45 - 6:15 (Tukwila)
Monday: 9:45 - 6:15 (Tukwila)
Tuesday: 11:45 - 8:15 (Tukwila)
Wednesday: 1:15 - 8:15 (Burien)
Thursday: 9:45 - 6:15 (Burien)

Work Environment

Work is performed in a typical library environment. Interactions with individuals that involve behavior issues may occur. Resources are available to assist with identifying solutions or actions. Work may occasionally be near moving mechanical parts or high speed automated systems. Incumbent must be available for a varied work schedule including evenings and/or weekends which may change periodically. Travel between assigned work locations may be required.
