Job Description

Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting clinical opportunity within the Allied Health Community primarily supporting the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Prehabilitation team. Prehabilitation is a proactive pre-surgical intervention designed to enhance a patients physical and mental condition before surgery. The goal is to improve current function and optimize postoperative outcomes by preparing patients both physically and emotionally. Rather than passively waiting Albertans can actively engage in their health during the wait period. Prehabilitation uses this time to prevent deconditioning and promote positive health behavior changes. Patients are supported in improving mobility nutrition emotional readiness and social supports. The program also focuses on pain control chronic disease management and addressing modifiable risk factors such as weight smoking and inactivity. This unique role will have leadership support from provincial domains & local clinical leaders and includes the opportunity to work in other Allied Health Community Teams for delegated clients or projects as needed. Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT) you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development disease disability chronic conditions illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention triage screening assessment diagnosis goal setting treatment management education consultation fostering resourcefulness case management referral and transition support to individuals groups populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers patients families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in rehabilitation practice including community-based and outpatient specialized service settings. They possess extensive knowledge of patient needs across the healthcare continuum and demonstrate best practices in collaborative interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form effective internal and external partnerships are essential. The role requires adaptability in an environment of innovation continuous change and learning. Clinical reasoning and decision-making skills must be well-developed along with the initiative to work independently in both clinical and virtual settings. A valid BLS-HCP certification is required. The candidate should have a strong understanding of pre- and post-surgical care excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to build therapeutic relationships and navigate sensitive situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Canadian Physiotherapy Association membership is preferred; This role may involve medium physical effort (2050lbs) equipment transfer including bending lifting pulling for assisting client transfers or therapeutic interventions. Prolonged sitting with laptop and associated technology like headset is expected for point of care charting and virtual services.
