Job Description

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol

Report In Location - 1970 W. Broad Street Columbus 43223

Within the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Office of Planning Research & Development acts for administrator by providing program direction & relieving superior of most difficult administrative duties pertaining to OSHP Statewide Events & Specialized programs:

  • Oversees the planning implementation & facilitation of all OSHP statewide events to include but not limited to promotional & award ceremonies cadet & basic peace officer graduations OSHP Memorial Post Dedications/Open Houses swearing-in ceremonies &/or other key engagements facilitated by the Superintendents Office;
  • Directs organizes & maintains special projects to include command meetings Public Safety Leadership trip internal &/or interagency conferences trainings community &/or educational events etc.;
  • Collaborates with Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Directors Office OSHP Superintendents Office Cabinet-level agencies & public &/or private partners on the planning & execution of events or special projects;
  • Analyzes & evaluates programs &/or projects makes revisions to event framework as needed; Oversees & reviews proposals submitted by division leadership; Identifies specific activities to be performed & establishes timelines in order to produce project deliverables;
  • Responds to any programmatic requests or issues as needed; Provides technical advice &/or recommendations to aid administrator in decision making; Provides regular updates to Administrator OSHP & ODPS leadership &/or section staff on event or project status;
  • Formulates & implements new program policies procedures guidelines & best practices; Evaluates &/or modifies existing policies & procedures to ensure efficient implementation; Communicates policy updates to all staff &/or stakeholders;
  • Establishes priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g. provide developmental opportunities & work direction coach staff to foster development monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security evaluate performance approve section staffing levels recommend discipline pre-screen applications & participate in interviews);
  • Works with Visual Communications Unit Public Affairs Unit & OSHP Photo Lab on the design creation & dissemination of event materials (e.g. communications publications invitations programs artwork event scripts etc.);
  • Coordinates with the Office of Finance & Logistics on fiscal related matters (e.g. budget preparation & oversight cost estimates forecasting internal & external needs for proposals speaker & vendor sourcing secure funding contract coordination etc.);
  • Oversees & manages logistical needs of events or projects (e.g. post & pre-event maintenance efficient resource utilization post event evaluation selection & booking of venues transportation & lodging needs etc.);
  • Conducts debriefing sessions & provides reports on the events success including feedback from clients & attendees;
  • Provides program & policy information &/or presentations to private organizations government officials &/or the general public;
  • Researches & responds to routine & non-routine correspondence inquiries &/or complaints from the general public government officials administrators &/or other staff;
  • Represents OSHP & ODPS at meetings conferences &/or speaking engagements; Speaks on behalf of Administrator on program matters;
  • Provides assistance to Superintendents office or other sections with composing proofreading or editing various types of correspondence;
  • Works on special projects; Performs other related duties as assigned.
