The Need

For over 25 years IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade IJMs Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence we are seeking a Global Safety & Security Intern to join the 2026 Spring Internship class.

The Global Safety & Security teamoverseesthe safety and security of IJM personnel and clients worldwide. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship Global Safety & Security interns can expect their tasks to include:

• Compiling daily briefs for senior leaders based on open source news sites which summarize key current events around the world that could impact IJMs operations;

• Assisting in coordinating course logistics for specialized safety and security trainings;

• Researching and preparing memoranda regarding threat assessments and crisis response plans;

• Tracking and reporting on security developments in regions of the world where IJM has offices;

• Completing research assignments assigned by Director of Global Safety & Security to provide in-depth reports of latest safety and security threats to IJMs work;

• Assist in trackingthe Field Offices compliance with IJM Security Manual policies and procedures throughcheck-ins with Field Office security personnel

• Assisting with the management of IJMs crisis response system; and

• Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

This position can be fully in-person or hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) in the Washington DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the Coordinator Global Safety & Security. The position requires 30-40 hours per week.

Spring internship program dates are Jan. 12 Apr. 17 2026.

*What is a statement of faith
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM. The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include at a minimum a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer study etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.

Candidate selection is based on technical competence recruitment selection and hiring criteria subject to assessing the candidates value congruence and thorough background police clearance and reference check processes.
