As a central agency the French Language Services Directorate (FLSD) supports collaborates with and empowers the Government of Yukon departments and other public bodies to serve and inform the public in French. We foster strong partnerships with departments and stakeholders to improve access to government services in French. We aim at building bilingual capacities across government by providing client-focused services such as translation training advice and operational support.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Language Policy Advisor the Language Policy Advisor provides policy development research and analysis to streamline and normalize the planning and delivery of French-language services. The position contributes to the development of strategic and business plans and collaborates with client departments to implement and evaluate them. This position also supports and advises a portfolio of client departments on implementing the Policy and Guidelines on French-language services and communications. The work is fast paced varied and requires the ability to manage and prioritize several projects with multiple clients and stakeholders at once.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary degree in one and more of the following field(s): Applied Linguistics Public Policy Public Administration Political sciences Social or Health sciences Communications Project Management or related field
  • Experience conducting research and data analysis to develop evidence-based policy recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience representing the interests of an organization in formal or strategic contexts-such as interdepartmental meetings with stakeholders or decision makers
  • Knowledge of data management is an asset

Candidates who have education training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge Skills and Suitability:

To best support the achievement of key strategic and business objectives candidates may be assessed on:

  • Well-developed attention to detail highly organized and having strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong research analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively build and steward the relationship between FLSD and client departments through collaboration and cooperation with people with diverse and conflicting interests.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team to achieve common goals.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing work demands.
  • Have an understanding of the Yukon Languages Act and knowledge of the contextual challenges that French speaking Yukoners face.
