The BGC Central Vancouver Island provides childcare daycare summer camps teenand youth programs family programs and parenting programs. Our mission is toprovide a safe supportive place where children and youth can experience newopportunities overcome barriers build positive relationships and develop theconfidence and skills for life. Our vision is that all children and youthdiscover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy successful andactive participants in our community. We are seeking individualswho may contribute remotely to join our Board of Directors.

Our Board ofDirectors is responsible for Governance Leadership Board Development &Recruitment Financial Administrative & Risk Management andFundraising/Marketing & Community Relations. Board members embrace the mission vision valuesobjectives and goals of the organization.

We are seekingcandidates with skills and knowledge in a variety of areas includingdecision-making; leadership; conflictresolution; strategic planning;written and verbal communication skills; business andcommunity development. Experience with networking and fundraising is an are particularly seeking those with experience in the professions of accountingand finance law and human resources.

Interestedcandidates should have compassion and respect for others a sense of integritya willingness to support Board fundraising activities and an interest in themission of the BGC CentralVancouver Island. The term of commitment is twoyears.

For those interestedin providing further strategic guidance to the organization a board positionmay evolve into a Treasurer role. Please read below for more information.

Board Treasurer

The Treasurer taking directionfrom the President of the Board and in conjunction with the FinanceCommittee oversees all financial functions of the organization and provides reportsfor the Board.
Term of Commitment: One (1-3) years

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent understanding of accounting practices andprinciples
  • Experience working with non-profit financial information

Responsibilities

  • Give regular reports and financial statements to the Board onthe financial state of the organization
  • Makes necessary arrangements for the secure keeping offinancial records reports and returns including books of account as are necessaryto comply with the Society Act and the Income Tax Act
  • Chairs the Finance Committee whose primary responsibility isthe ongoing review of financial statements preparation of annual budgets andpreparation of year end statements.
  • Orients the new Treasurer
  • Acts as a signing officer with the Executive Director for chequesand other documents
  • Oversees the annual budgeting process
  • Recommends year-end financial review/audit process to the Board.
  • Recommends the appointment of accountant/auditor.
  • Oversees the audit process
  • Recommends changes to organizational policy procedures and/orbest practices as it relates to financial matters.
