Job Description:

Sun Life is seeking a Director to join our Corporate Development team based in Toronto. Corporate Development is responsible for the execution of corporate transactions which include the acquisition and divestiture of companies operations or books of business minority equity investments as well as the formation of joint ventures and strategic partnerships.

The Director Corporate Development will join a high-performing team and play a key part in developing and executing on both short and long-term growth strategies across all of Sun Lifes businesses globally.

Please note this is a hybrid role requiring regular presence at our Toronto One York office on a weekly basis.


What will you do:

  • Across a project/transactions life cycle collaborate with internal functional partners and business group leads as well as interface with counterparties and external advisors.
  • Identify research and analyze potential companies that could be suitable acquisition targets. Evaluate the strategic fit of these companies including discussions with the relevant business units.
  • Develop detailed financial model and valuation of target businesses while incorporating considerations and recommendations from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead various stages of a transactions life cycle and manage multi-functional due diligence processes to identify risks and mitigants.
  • Support integration/separation monitoring as required.
  • Prepare internal discussion materials which capture financial analysis and qualitative analysis around a project opportunity.
  • Contribute to internal projects or organic strategic initiatives.

What do you need to succeed:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience including investment banking corporate development management consulting accounting and other similar highly analytical roles.
  • Valuation M&A transaction experience and advanced financial modelling skills.
  • Undergraduate degree in commerce economics or another relevant field; MBA and professional designation(s) preferred (e.g. CPA CFA CBV etc.) or alternatively an actuarial background as modeling is a key component in this role.
  • Transactions experience within the financial services industry (e.g. insurance or asset management) would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication process management and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work in situations with changing priorities and multiple simultaneous assignments.
  • Willingness and ability to deliver high-quality work over long hours and under tight timeframes as required.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
