Were looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Lab Coordinator who is passionate about ensuring high-quality lab services compliance and staff training across Valley-Wide Health Systems clinics.

The Lab Coordinator reports to the Director of Nursing and is responsible for overseeing and implementing lab protocols across all Valley-Wide Health Systems facilities. This role ensures compliance with accrediting bodies supports staff training and competency and contributes to quality assurance through audits education and technical support.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

Training Education & Competency Oversight:

  • Onboard and train new clinical staff (nursing MA and RAC staff) on CLIA testing sterilization and lab protocols (90 employees).
  • Conduct lab skills and quality control evaluations at hire 3 months and annually.
  • Proctor CLIA and sterilization exams for new hires 3-month and annual competencies.
  • Create supplemental training materials and maintain lab manuals and logs.
  • Coordinate and track lab e-learning completion in Health Stream.
  • Provide ongoing education and support to staff across all 17 clinics.

Compliance & Audits:

  • Conduct monthly audits of all clinic labs to ensure compliance with CLIA OSHA AAAHC and internal policies.
  • Review logs for accuracy including lot numbers controls expirations and patient data.
  • Audit sterilization logs autoclave performance spore testing and crash cart compliance.
  • Provide direct staff feedback and implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) when necessary.
  • Attend Clinician Lab Committee meetings and support policy and procedure development.

Technical & Operational Support:

  • Provide maintenance and troubleshooting for POC machines (HemoCue Glucose 201 HemoCue HB 201 Alere Reader DCA System UA Clinitek).
  • Order and maintain supplies for training testing and proficiency exams.
  • Support infection control and safety initiatives related to laboratory practices.
  • Assist in development of new policies procedures and evidence-based education projects.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain lab-related records and prepare reports for management.
  • Track competency completions audit findings and compliance data.
  • Utilize NextGen for monthly lab reports and communicate findings to RN Leads and staff.
  • Maintain and update CLIA licenses and documentation in alignment with CMS requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: 2 years of healthcare experience

Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and knowledge of electronic health records.

Other Skills:

  • Understanding of OSHA standards sterilization and lab safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills; able to train and mentor staff at all levels.
  • High attention to detail accuracy and follow-through.
  • Flexible collaborative and enthusiastic about Valley-Wides mission.
