Job Summary

The Banquet Houseperson Supervisor is responsible for leading coordinating and overseeing the daily operations and logistical execution of the Banquet Houseperson team. This role assesses multiple client needs and recommends staffing requirements supervises the efficient setup delivery and teardown of catered events conferences and meetings while upholding service standards and safety protocols. The supervisor plays a key role in scheduling training quality assurance and acting as the on-site liaison between event organizers and internal teams.

Organizational Status
Reports to General Manager Sage Catering.

Work Performed

Operational Oversight

  • Plan and supervise the setup and teardown of venues including arrangement of tables chairs linens audio-visual equipment and Food & Beverage stations.
  • Coordinate deliveries and pickups of food beverages equipment and supplies across multiple campus venues.
  • Monitor on-site execution of events ensuring timely setup adherence to floor plans and proper service delivery.
  • Ensure all setups meet health safety and service standards; escalate any safety or facility issues as needed.
  • Supervise bar and back table setups

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead coach and mentor Banquet Housepersons.
  • Create and manage Banquet Housepersons schedules to meet fluctuating event demands including late night and early morning shifts.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for new and existing employees; assist with performance feedback and corrective coaching as necessary.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful team environment with a focus on service excellence and accountability.

Administrative & Reporting Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries event setup checklists inventory tracking and vehicle logs.
  • Ensure proper documentation of incidents equipment usage and any client concerns during events.
  • Oversee cleanliness and readiness of event spaces and storage areas; ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Assist managers in budgeting procurement and inventory of supplies and equipment for banquet operations.
  • Review and adjust Banquet Housepersons Standard Operating Procedures and checklists.

Client Service & Problem Resolution

  • Act as the primary contact for on-site event troubleshooting and client concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with Banquet Captains Catering Coordinators and Managers to ensure client expectations are met.
  • Evaluate client needs monitor guest satisfaction and take proactive steps to resolve issues in real-time.

Consequence of Error/Judgment

Poor supervision can result in disorganized event setups client dissatisfaction safety hazards and damage to the organizations reputation. The Supervisor must exercise sound judgment especially under pressure to maintain high service quality and operational efficiency.

Supervision Received

Reports to and takes direction from Reports to General Manager Sage Catering. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with standard practice and reviewed on completion for adherence to standards. Unusual problems are referred to manager. Works from oral and written instructions simple drawings floor plans and within policies and procedures guidelines.

Supervision Given

Supervise a team of up to 8-15 Banquet Housepersons working in Food Services. Conduct on-the-job training and coaching for new and existing Banquet Housepersons.


Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum five years of related experience including the ability to supervise staff or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Class 5 drivers License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in hospitality or event management is an asset.
  • 1 year of experience in a supervisory or lead role is an asset.
  • Valid BC Class 5 drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 kg and perform manual labor for extended periods.
  • Strong knowledge of AV systems banquet service logistics and campus layouts.
  • Excellent leadership interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and multitasking ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic scheduling/logistics software.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including graveyard shifts weekends and holidays.
