The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District provides vital fire and life safety services to residents visitors and businesses in Rancho Cucamonga. Through an innovative combination of risk reduction and emergency response programs Fire District personnel are dedicated to delivering these services in an effective efficient and professional manner to those we serve in cadence with the Districts Mission and Core Values.

From fire suppression and emergency medical services to our emphasis on integrated risk reduction through emergency preparedness prevention and safety education the District has always worked diligently to meet the changing needs of our community.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

Youll be responsible for:

  • Planning organizing managing and evaluating the day-to-day activities and operations of the Fire Prevention Bureau including the review of plans and building specifications for fire protection system design and construction
  • Annual inspections and fire system code enforcement of commercial industrial and residential businesses structures and facilities and investigations of code violations and the issuance of fire permits
  • Participating in annual budget preparation identifying resource needs and preparing detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications
  • Performing field inspections of new construction and existing industrial commercial institutional and residential structures and facilities including the inspection of installed fire protection systems and fire hydrants
  • Managing and participating in the development and implementation of department goals and objectives establishing schedules and methods for providing fire prevention services and developing and implement policies and procedures.
  • Planning supervising and reviewing the work of fire inspection staff in the Fire Prevention Division in addition to training staff in work procedures and evaluating employee performance

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education and/or Experience:
Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in some combination of fire prevention fire engineering fire inspection hazardous materials programs building plans examination and/or code enforcement. Any combination of inspection and plan review classes certifications and programs that demonstrate the ability to implement fire and life safety principles and community risk reduction efforts. Any combination of leadership and supervisory courses or programs that demonstrate the ability to lead and supervise effectively.

A Bachelors degree in public administration or a related field is highly desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and provide high level of customer service with engineers developers contractors vendors other governmental agencies City staff and the public.
  • Organization and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs policies and operational needs.
  • Principles systems procedures practices and methods employed in fire prevention inspection investigation public information and education and municipal government.
  • Modern and complex principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression services program development and administration.
  • Theory principles policies and practices of public personnel administration including employee training and development performance planning and appraisal budgeting purchasing and maintaining public records.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in building and facility inspection and construction.
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision and leadership including work planning assignment review and evaluation discipline and the training of staff in work procedures.
  • Applicable laws regulations and codes applicable to areas of assigned responsibility including the California Fire Code California Building Code relevant City Municipal Code and a variety of regulatory safety compliance codes standards and guidelines.
  • District policies and procedures and the laws and regulations governing the operation of a Fire District.
  • Development and construction processes including plan review permit issuance and construction inspection techniques.
  • Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program project and task coordination including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.
  • Plan manage supervise assign delegate review and evaluate the work of staff engaged in fire safety and prevention programs including fire safety inspection code enforcement plan review and permit issuance.
  • Assist in developing and implementing goals objectives practices policies procedures and work standards.
  • Enforce compliance with plans specifications ordinances and codes.
  • Define issues analyze problems evaluate alternatives and develop sound independent conclusions and recommendations in accordance with laws regulations rules and policies.
  • Understand interpret explain and apply complex laws regulations policies and procedures.
  • Prepare clear accurate complete and concise records reports correspondence and other written materials.
  • Read understand and interpret blueprints plans and specifications; detect deviations from plans regulations and standard safety procedures.
  • Use tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues situations and concerned people.
  • Effectively represent the department and the city in meetings with governmental agencies community groups various business professional and regulatory organizations and in meetings with individuals.
  • Independently organize work set priorities meet critical deadlines exercise independent judgement and follow up on assignments.

Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.

Possession of or ability to obtain PC 832 Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certificate to the level deemed appropriate for the position within one year of hire.

Possession of or ability to obtain ICC Plans Examiner certification within one year of hire.

Possession of or ability to complete some State Fire Training Fire Marshal courses to the level deemed appropriate for the position within one year of hire.
