The Opportunity


The Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and systems engineering expertise at COVE. Reporting to the Program Director MTAS this role leads the design integration and execution of complex system-of-systems solutions across marine digital and sensor-based platforms supporting advanced defence and ocean technology initiatives.


As the lead systems engineer this position will oversee technical architecture development requirements definition system integration and verification activities in alignment with program objectives. The role will work closely with internal project teams government stakeholders research institutions and industry partners to ensure that technical deliverables meet performance interoperability and operational requirements.


What Youll Do:

  • Lead systems engineering efforts providing overall technical direction and systems-level oversight.
  • Develop and manage system architectures interface definitions integration plans and technical requirements.
  • Ensure alignment between system requirements and program objectives including technical performance reliability and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager Major Projects and project managers to ensure seamless integration of engineering deliverables into project plans and schedules.
  • Coordinate with other technical leads contractors and government partners to define and deliver integrated system-of-systems solutions.
  • Support the design and execution of field trials system testing and validation campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including systems engineering plans interface control documents and test plans.
  • Ensure traceability of requirements through the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including software developers hardware engineers marine technicians and external collaborators.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for project stakeholders and leadership.
  • Contribute to stakeholder briefings program reports and technical presentations as required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Ensure compliance with COVEs policies and procedures including human resources safety and operational standards.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the success and growth of COVEs programs and strategic initiatives.


What You Bring

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Systems Engineering Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in systems engineering including experience with complex integrated systems.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering processes tools and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through technical planning and execution.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage conflict professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Powerpoint) and the ability to quickly learn new digital tools and systems.
  • Highly motivated analytical logical thinker with a very strong attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple and/or unexpected deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work well individually and in a team environment.


Additional Assets:

  • Knowledge of C4ISR systems autonomous platforms sensors communications or underwater technologies is an asset.
  • Experience in defence marine aerospace or related sectors is preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies is an asset.
  • Team leadership skills.
