Job Description
Job Title: Greenhouse General Manager

Job Summary:
The General Manager plans directs and coordinates the ongoing operations of the greenhouse. This role ensures the safe efficient and resourceful operation of the facilities to meet current and future organizational needs. The General Manager provides strong leadership manages staff and implements strategies to enhance productivity sustainability and growth.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations across all departments ensuring alignment with company goals and objective.
- Develop and execute short-term and long-term strategic operational objectives.
- Identify recommend and implement new processes technologies and systems that will improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
- Manage budgets for the greenhouse operations ensuring cost-effective practices.
- Ensure that operational decisions and project plans for staffing development organization material efficiency hardware acquisitions and facilities are in line with the company business plan and vision.
- Oversee the allocation of resources including personnel materials and equipment to ensure efficient operations.
- Provide performance reports and metrics to senior leadership.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management.
- Identify training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.
- Mitigate risks associated with warehouse and greenhouse operations and ensure it is regularly and effectively maintained.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards including Occupational Health & Safety Food Safety and HACCP.
- In collaboration with Human Resources maintain employee relations and corrective counseling process.
- Provide leadership by fostering a positive collaborative work environment managing all aspects of employment conducting regular staff meetings mentoring team members and maintaining effective communication and policy implementation.
- Source and hire outside contractors as required to maintain the facility.
- Other core expectations as defined by the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration Operational Management or a related field is required; a Masters degree is preferred. Alternatively candidates with 10 years of relevant experience in a similar leadership role may also be considered.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a greenhouse environment manufacturing or food processing environment.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices Health and Safety Food Safety HACCP and the PrimusGFS Program
- Experience with the PRIVA greenhouse climate control system is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices
- Strong background in strategic planning resource allocation and operations management.
- Commitment to high professional ethical standards; an influential leader able to motivate with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style; exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical thinker: able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems
- Strong organizational and time management abilities that allow projects and goals to be completed on time
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is considered an asset.
- Must be flexible to shift assignments as required to meet both customer & business needs
Work Environment:
- Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; willingness and ability to travel
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand sit; talk hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers and filing cabinets.
- This role operates in a hot humid environment where temperatures range from 90-100F or more depending on the time of year. Occasional work within a refrigerated packhouse where temperatures range from 45-55F. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery and forklift truck operation
