About the Data Team
Position Summary
We are seeking a Data Manager who brings both technical expertise and strong soft skills in stakeholder and project management to collaborate across the organization. This role will focus on student operational and enrollment data along with staff data ensuring the delivery of accurate reliable information that drives strategic decision-making organizational improvement and efficient operations. By building strong processes sustainable technical solutions and centralized data quality systems the Manager will help give valuable time back to schools and regional teams.
Core to the role is managing a portfolio of cross-functional projects and ongoing workflows at the intersection of data enrollment operations and human resources. The Manager will design and maintain user-friendly tools lead timely ad hoc analyses and partner closely with stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions. Attention to detail and proactiveness are essential as the Manager will be responsible for both executing on our data quality strategy and anticipating challenges before they become problems.
The ideal candidate is an analytical and resourceful problem-solver who thrives in a collaborative fast-paced environment. They bring curiosity flexibility and a strong ability to translate complex analysis into clear insights for non-technical audiences. This role is a critical member of the Data & Evaluation team.
This role sits on our Data & Evaluation Team and reports to our Associate Director of Data. This is a hybrid role with the expectation that 3 days per week be spent at our Regional Support Office in Oakland.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
Three (3) or more years of experience working with data systems as a data manager analyst or related role.
Demonstrated project management skills including collaborating across teams creating processes/resources and balancing competing priorities.
Proven experience analyzing large datasets with accuracy and attention to detail; experience with student data or HR/Talent data is a plus.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Track record of being resourceful and adaptable with the ability to learn new platforms quickly and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge/skills required:
Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel (including pivot tables) and the Google Suite.
Experience developing data visualizations using Tableau or similar tools
Experience in SQL for database management and reporting (eg. PostgreSQL Microsoft SQL Server)
Familiarity with software release processes and related tooling such as GitHub and Agile project management
Strong ability to manage multiple timelines prioritize work and complete detailed tasks with accuracy and accountability independently
Critical thinker who can identify root causes assess risks and recommend scalable solutions.
Highly resourceful with ability to learn new data platforms/systems quickly and independently

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
With support from the Data and Evaluation team the Data Manager will be responsible for:
Data Analysis and Visualization:
Partner closely with regional and school Operations and Enrollment teams as well as People (HR Talent People Initiatives) teams to iteratively design build and prune tools and processes that help our organization to make better decisions and give folks time back to focus on their best work. These tools and processes include: student application and enrollment student and staff retention staff experience (hiring onboarding renewals offboarding) and surveys.
Leverage agile development and product management best practices to balance stakeholder feature requests with a need to deliver minimum viable products to ensure best use of organizational resources.
Perform root cause analysis to ensure solutions solve underlying problems and not just surface level symptoms.
Analyze student and staff data identifying patterns and determine their implications for practices in core areas such to support data informed decision making.
Use Tableau Google Suite products SQL or other tools to customize and create powerful sustainable and user-friendly tools and analyses to support this work.
Data Stewardship and Project Management:
Develop and maintain data quality systems to audit infrastructure and tools across key content areas. Facilitate stepback conversations with stakeholders to review definitions refine business practices and ensure metrics align with organizational priorities.
Lead projects by setting milestones aligning stakeholders and tracking progress through completion. Build timelines coordinate across teams and monitor implementation to ensure smooth adoption of new tools and protocols.
Partner with stakeholders to create clear data protocols and training strategies that support effective rollout and user adoption.
Troubleshoot student and staff data issues in ways that build stakeholder capacity. Provide training resources for common issues and proactively manage the intake and resolution of data problems to minimize disruptions.
Contribute to the teams knowledge management and documentation systems. Support sustainable infrastructure by maintaining standards tracking adoption and facilitating retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
Data Strategy:
Function as an internal consultant to a portfolio of internal teams (Enrollment Operations Talent HR People Initiatives) to gather business requirements and assess the quality of our users experience to inform our road map.
Work with schools regional staff and the Data Team to plan and prioritize short-term and long-term analytics needs to drive regional strategy.
Collaborate with the Data Team to develop and maintain a data warehouse that connects key student staff and operational data for meaningful analysis.

Physical Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively which may include kneeling walking pushing/pulling squatting twisting turning bending stooping and reaching overhead
Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives work with interruptions concentrate for long periods of time read calculate perform routine math problems memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental: Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. KIPP adheres to health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC CDE and public health agencies recommendations.
Classification
This is a full-time exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle based out of our Regional Support Office. The KIPP Regional Support Office operates in a hybrid environment. Most positions can expect to work in person 3 days per week and remotely the remaining days subject to change based on the needs of the role.

KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your familys well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical dental vision and transportation benefits.
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $90000 and $113000. Most candidates would be compensated at $97000.
